Patek Philippe Nautilus 5711 Green - A close look!
I was fortunate to shoot one of these watches a few weeks ago. A stunning watch that wears exceptionally better than it looks, and it looks pretty awesome.

Thanks for looking!
I haven't had a chance to edit my photographs yet (and they're not very good) so this video will have to do for now - https://youtu.be/iDbaFD4QxdA |

I like 5740 but the 3 subdial PC layout looks better in a round case IMO whereas the asymmetric dial layout of 5712 looks best in the Nautilus case. |

That green hue is lovely.

I think I still prefer the WG but the RG is almost just as desirable. Imagine a much slimmer 5990/1R. |

WG, thin PC Nautilus. A great complication for a great line of watches for a great watch maker.
5711 1/A is still an entry level sports watch, and cannot be called "the best". |

How does the darkness of the color look compared to Rolex Mint Green?

Need to see that outside or with some sun on it, otherwise looks too dark a green to me.

I have never seen it live, and I doubt I ever will, unfortunately. I love that watch.

Let’s be fair, a WG perpetual isn’t really your classic sports watch! Doesn’t stop me loving it, and the 5711 green, and the blue, and the P. Hate to have to pick a favourite and call one the best. I guess the one on your wrist is the best!

I'm sorry, but I'd be pretty peeved by all the big imperfections I saw in the macro, especially on the indices and the date window peeking prior dates. How does this pass for QC? The indices for 12 were not aligned well either. I'm not talking about a couple points on massive macro. I'm talking about what I would imagine I could see with my eye if I looked a bit close.

These mechanical watches are not 100% machine assembled and most still have some degree of hand-finishing. Even for watches that are supposed to be "finished to the highest degree" such as Dufour, Voutilainen and RRCC, you can see imperfections on the dial, edge of the bridge/plate not fully straight although it is supposed to be straight, juncture where cote de geneve stripes meet anglage not perfect, inconsistent anglage along the same bridge/plate, etc. And these watches are priced way above 5711 and they are made in such small volume. I'm definitely not trying to criticize these brands here because I love them. Just want to point out imperfections are not an abnormally in a hand-assembled and finished product.

the fact is, it was made on a budget, high margin profit for the price of about $30k. It's crazy enough that some people would pay 6x that price for a 5711, and it's even more crazy that someone would pay another 2.5x more than that still for a different color dial. but oh well, I don't speak for everyone. |

Patek of course makes all it’s pieces to a budget that is dictated by the selling price to the AD. Probably worth adding that the profit margin is at it’s lowest on the most simple pieces in SS and goes up as complications and then PM are introduced, often accompanied by production numbers decreasing. It is also a fact that in our present market grey selling prices have no bearing on the real cost of producing the piece, this can be reflected in the prices achieved by hyped pieces such as Daytona and Nautilus being many multiples of the MSRP and balanced against the relative poor prices of many PM complications which can sell well below the actual cost to produce. There is no sense to the pricing, it is purely a result of supply and demand and rationalising it is impossible. What is great is that the options in the market have probably never been so good with many indi’s making superb alternatives to the hyped pieces. |

The green in person is very underwhelming. Was lucky enough to see one last year at my AD. I am not a huge 5711 guy anyway but the blue dial is much better, IMO.

I was cynical of the way PP did this, but in person the beauty of the watch blew that away, I actually liked it because it was different, the green face looked nicer than the blue when you hold it in your hand, in my opinion of course. It made it stand out from the crowd of blue faces that are the standard for the Nautilus and I felt that it was so much the better for it.
They also made me feel good because I was put on a wish list for one. I knew I was never getting it, but being put on the wish list felt like a nod to my enthusiasm as a collector over the years even though I'm not a whale and not wealthy enough to buy several watches a year. |
