I think I messed up!
Hello All!
This is my first post as a registered user. I have purchase several rolex watches from ADs, however, I made an impulse buy on ebay and I am not sure what to think. The watch arrived and it just "feels" wrong. Here is the link: http://cgi.ebay.com/1980-ROLEX-OYSTE...A1%7C294%3A200 Any thoughts would be appreciated. I guess my next step would be to take it to a dealer and open the back? Thanks in advance for your guidance? |

It looks O.K. to me. It's a 34mm Oyster Perpetual Date. The movement looks correct (going by the photos).
Not really a disaster, it should be OK to me. Welcome

Hi Billy,
Welcome to TRF I agree with Steve, the watch looks good, Its an earlier 1501 DJ correct Movement, the serial dates it to 1980, nice dial and has the acrylic crystal. The band has a bit of stretch which happens with the jubilee two tone over a period of time, I have a 94 16233 TT DJ that eventually will get that same stretch, just depends on how well you keep it cleaned. This watch also has markings on the inside of the case back showing it has had servicing in Nov 2004. Looks like a good buy to me, if you do have any further fears, I'd drop into your usual AD and get them to check it over. Hope this helps, Dave.

Thanks so much for the kind feedback. It has really made me feel better. I am going to the AD at some point to get it cleaned, I'll keep you updated! I look forward to my membership to the forum!

...the 1501 was a S/S watch...
...NOT a 2T as presented in the listing.
...I would suspect the watch was converted to 2T. ...this type of thing is done often. As long as you can live with it, you will be fine. ...NICE looking watch. |

Hi Billy welcome to the forum, everybody is really nice and helpful. I do like the dial and the price sounds right to me as well for a watch of that age and 2 tone.

The comment from tudorman is well taken. One of my initial suspicions was (and continues to be) that the crown is not right. That would make sense if the watch was converted.
