1665 sd
Have just brought a 1665 SD (1979 vintage) with original plexi-glass. The watch came without any paperwork but looks to be original and has a rail dial. Whilst I plan to wear the watch daily I was considering getting the watch serviced by Rolex to get some paperwork to prove its authenticity and hopefully add to its value. I wondered if anyone out there would think that this would be worthwhile. Does anyone know if you can get original replacements for the plexi-glass should it get deeply scratched during use?

Hi mike
Great watch you have there, you can get original parts for it when you have it serviced. My advice would be to take to Rolex head office at Bexley heath. 01322 521436 and ask for Graham in the service dept, he is really helpfull. rolex will also be able to tell you of any service history on the watch if the watch was uk supplied etc or at a push they can mail geneva to get more info for you.. Do not change any of the hands or dials, but let them service and clean the watch... And please pst some pics of your 1665..... If you want any more advice there are plenty of forum members that have vast knowledge of these time pieces, alot more than myself... |

I echo Marke's advice! If Rolex services the watch they will replace the crystal with an updated version, so the look will change slightly. Congrats and looking forward to the pictures!

The 1655 is great. If you do take your watch to Rolex U.K. make sure you tell them to keep the dial and hands, as the original tritium marker dial/hands are much more collectible than the newer luminova model.
If you post some photos then we can discuss it further/greater detail.
