1500 with black crown logo, wide marker on 6 and 9.

I have found these pictures on google and noticed that the black colored on top of crown logo on dial and wide marker at 6 and 9 with black color at the end of marker.

Do you have any information about this model??
I wonder why it is painted black only top of the crown logo.

I originally thought it might just be the angle / reflection of the photo - notice that in picture #2, both 4 and 5 indices are also "black". However, it appears every pic has the crown darkened. Very strange - it could either be 1) reflection and its just coincidental that the angle was off in each picture or 2) there is some sort of addition to the top part of the crown. I'm not aware of this model with this type of nuance.

Here’s some more info mentioning an onyx crown and markers.
Not a reflection.

The black piece on the crown is an overlay, like a veneer, so it is quite possible it is a very thin layer onyx as reported.

Strange design choice IMO to omit the onyx overlay from that bottom piece of the coronet.

If that is in-fact the case, it sure fooled me.

Here's a close up of the coronet on the stainless steel model which I think shows the overlay. A few thoughts about why it isn't complete are:

1. The sides of the bottom section were very thin and the complete overlay kept breaking

2. The alignment wasn't quite right and they couldn't get all the sections to line up correctly

3. There might have been copyright fears that a complete coronet would be seen by Rolex as a forgery

4. This was done as a fashion item when the bi-metallic and Tridor look was very popular

Still no idea about who did this and why, except that it wasn't an original Rolex fitment.

Interesting. Definitely not a reflection, although at first casual glance it appears to be.
