Is this 1675 relumed?
Hi All,
I am trying to learn how to identify relumed dial. Pouring through this forum for a period of time, I am still unable to identify or tell the tales of a relumed dial. Could you good folks help to determine if this dial is relumed? https://photos.google.com/photo/AF1Q..._7cCbXoHLAg3pT https://photos.google.com/photo/AF1Q...jmQsB7xP8XuQyK https://photos.google.com/photo/AF1Q...nMms1n3EGSLs08 Thanks. |

Your photos don't seem to work for me. Amazing how often this is happening recently. That said, I doubt that I will be able to tell if the watch is re-lumed from photos, unless it's a terrible re-luming job. UV photos and macros are usually needed.

Post some photos here without links. Most here do not open unknown links due to the possibility of potential viruses and/or other unwanted issues.

Take a photo of the dial/hands under a blacklight. That often gives good clues about lume via photos.

I heard that one is able to relumed using non-reactive material that does not react to UV or blacklight. Apparently, there are non-reactive materials for reluming the plots.

There are watchmakers that can relume with tritium paint that will react just like the original lume. The lume will react under light and then quickly stop once light is removed.

This is why venturing into the vintage world is so challenging and full of dangerous pitfalls. On the positive side, this makes it a never-ending learning journey. Personally, I face extreme difficulties spotting (i) evidences of relume, (ii) period correct and genuine insert, and (i) service or fake hands. That said, I enjoy religiously reading this forum to enrich my knowledge.

Never seen an oval shaped Rolex.
I know it’s the angle and perspective. You’ll need better, straight on, unreflected close up photos to get anyone to hazard a reliable opinion. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

My bad. The re-sizing of the photos to qualified posting, unfortunately, severely distort the actual photo. I will try to re-size these photos again.

Having relumed hands is not a make or break deal for many collectors. Most collectors understand that tritium lume on many vintage watches has lasted way longer than any intended purpose. It is fragile, can flake and is very touchy and susceptible to cracking. Those with vintage hands without issues are fortunate. As far as the hands go on this GMT, personally, I can't tell for sure whether the hands are relumed or not but I am leaning toward something going on with the hands that makes me believe that the lume has been repaired or may not be original.
With that said........ The watch here has what a appears to be an aftermarket crystal and bracelet issues. I believe you should address these issues with the seller, or move on and search for a reputable seller if you do not like the responses. Also, as far as the hands go, this should be discussed with the seller too if relumed hands are not for you.

Hi JP, thank you very much for your highly valuable comments. One question if i may, do you think the plots are relumed? The plots kind of appear "artificial" to me.
