Submariner 1680 „Ghost“

Hi,

how do you like the look of my 1680 from 1972 with "ghost" insert?
Some like these aged bezels, some not at all.

I look forward to hearing your thoughts.

Best regards

Alex

Hello sir,
Not quite ghost but a nice faded insert. Lovely ref. Enjoy.

Oh, I didn't mean to use the term "ghost" incorrectly.

Limbo? Ghostesque? Fresh cadaver bezel? Is there a scale somewhere?

Whatever it is I like it.

Thank you very much! I actually prefer the examples that have survived the test of time with as few traces as possible. But I liked the overall look of this 1680. Fortunately, the dial is undamaged and the bracelet and pateted clasp are still in good, wearable condition.

Looks great. IMHO the fade matches the dial's patina very nicely.

Thank you. That's also what I like about this Submariner.

Looks very nice, but "ghost" is usually used to refer to inserts that are much more faded. TBH, I think that the term is often used by dealers as an attempt to add value to inserts that are too far gone.

Dan, you're right. I feel the same way about some "tropical" dials.
As I said, I actually prefer vintage Rolexes that don't show their age. I made an exception with this 1680 because I thought the look was coherent.

Great looking red submariner! I have one myself and change between proper black and ghost inserts myself from time to time!
