use a third party image hosting site and embed or link them to a post.

I can't post any links until I've got 10 posts apparently. Brief story is I inherited this Rolex Datejust 1601. No one, and I mean no one will take the back off it. I've been to seven watch dealers and two authorised dealers.

You can post pics now just no URLs until 10 posts. Use the "Go Advanced" button and size the images accordingly when you use the paper clip icon to attach images.

I think this odd, but perhaps telling. Of course, Dealers are not often watchmakers, so perhaps it's that they don't know how.

Have they given you a reason not to look inside?

I have no idea. Like I said, I'm not a watch person. I don't think I've ever been turned away when I've offered to pay?

Better photos would be helpful. Like maybe one nice high resolution image showing the whole dial.

Thanks mate.

I honestly don't care if it's real or not. It's sentimental regardless. Just curious.

Engravings good as ttg says. Be interested to see a close up of dial and hands too as Dan and ttg say.
Welcome btw to 'Fine Detail Central' forum.

I think it's probably fake

No one like I said is willing to check by taking the back off. That's fine, cool with me. I don't even wear it, just curiosity. Thanks.

Here is the last photo.

You should be able to upload pictures by managing attachments.

These uploads are not the best, recommend you try direct and with natural light.

I think what most people are implying here is that the watch looks authentic, but that the dial may have been redone.

Yes. I think the dial has been redone. But I don't know anything. Looks too new for a 52 year old watch IMO.

Two Rolex dealers said they didn't have the qualified staff. Three watch places said they didn't have the tool, and 'Watch Lab' tried two said they'd not touch it if it was 'real'.

Good stuff putting these up for a fresher - Mind you, I'm quite jealous of ttg getting the mantle of 'lad', I don't think I've been called that since summer of 1989

Two pics in natural light. Lens, plexiglass was replaced in my ownership about 10 years ago.

Dial btw is a repaint/refinish (as you suspected), but as you say it doesn't matter if watch is sentimental - enjoy ! * And you can get them upwards of £400 anyway should you seek one on eBay.

Btw don't fuss too much over getting case back off...the movt/calibre inside...very unlikely it's not a correct 1570/5 mvt as the case is good and the correct mvts were just £500 10 yrs ago so rarely got swapped out to incorrect ones. :-)
