MK iV dial double Red Sea Dweller

I have been trying to find out why the double red sea dwellers even the later ones with the Mk IV dial are so much more costly and hard to find compared to the white dial Sea Dweller (1665) of about the same period. Does anyone have any idea how many of the later models were produced. Was it that all Sea Dwellers prior to 1977 were red versions of the 1665?
