Boston AP robbed by 3 masked men…..

The Boston AP was robbed by 3 masked individuals on Friday right at closing. These individuals smashed through the glass door with a sledgehammer and then smashed the display cases and made off with numerous watches. Fortunately the Boston Police stopped the getaway vehicle within a block of the robbery and managed to arrest 3 out of the 4 individuals with the getaway driver making good on his escape.

The morale of the story here is be careful when you are picking up your watches at the boutiques.
The head of security at the Rolex boutique which is within 200-300 yards of the AP boutique reported some people were also staking out that store a few days ago.
Stay safe everyone!

Reports sound like no-one was hurt, but this is really screwed up. Great team at that boutique, really hope they can put this past them.

That’s crazy…at 6 pm, a busy time.
But do they actually have functional watches in the cases? I thought they are demonstration/display only.

I visited this boutique over a road trip a few months ago. Really lovely staff. I hope they are all doing ok. Glad most of the thieves got caught, just one more to go. What absolute boneheads.

So when we pick up watches, do you guys insure the new watch for a few days and then cancel it after you activate the AP insurance? If I recall, it took a few days for AP to activate the insurance for me last time. So for my next incoming, even if I take the photos and submit the photos right at the boutique while picking up, the watch won’t have any coverage from AP until a few days later. So is it a good idea to sign up for Hodinkee insurance or something and then cancel it days later?

Not sure how it works with AP coverage alone but if you have Hodinkee insurance you're covered for any new purchases up to 90 days before you're required to add them to your policy, provided your existing coverage $ amount is sufficient.

For my last pickup, I sent the pictures in while still in the boutique and coverage was active less than 24h later. I'll continue not to worry about it.

Yea I think one of mine took only a day. But that still means if we are robbed right outside the store we are screwed

I've been told by the boutique that I should also keep independent insurance on the watch.

Easiest way is to just workout 5-6 days a week for 20 years so that by the time you can afford an AP no one really wants to bother you.

Ok, maybe not the easiest but if does work :)

All watches there are fully functional in Boston as far as I know. I spoke with my sales associate today. Obviously sounded still in shock but thankfully everyone is safe. I am personally very shocked at this. Boston has overall been pretty safe for watches compared to all of the bigger cities like London, NYC, SF, LA and Miami where I have been reading many horror stories. There are at least 6 new brand boutiques opening on Newbury in the next few months. I hate to see this area becoming unsafe.

Last time I picked up an AP security walked me to me car. I brought a discrete backpack and put it in there.

I was buying an AP, collecting a different AP from service and wearing a Rolex. My eyes were wide open on the walk to the car!

Thank you, kman. Totally agree, it seemed Boston has been relatively much safer. There was that car smash into Chanel last year, but at least that was in the early hours of the morning. This brazen AP attack, however, is on another level. They did mention anyone being armed, but they must have subdued the security guard I’d imagine.
And then your point about the other boutiques, wow. I didn’t realize there’s that many new planned openings besides the new PP. Even if the stores will have new strategies in place, there’s a legitimate concern for shoppers/clients being followed and targeted. City officials will need to take added action to ensure safety in such a high tourist area.

Holy shit this is my boutique. I was just there 2 weeks ago getting resized. It’s not in a bad part of town and it is a rather busy street with high end shopping nearby. Wow.

Only mentioned sledge hammers. But I'm sure the security guard is there as a deterrent, not to actually engage armed assailants. Last thing AP wants is a John Woo-style slo-mo shootout in a space the size of my dining room.

Funnily enough the Boston boutique has mostly RO and ROOs as display pieces. I did not see any Code display pieces last time I was there.

PP, VC, Hublot, Breitling, IWC, and Panerai are all opening up boutiques on the same block as the Rolex boutique on Newbury.

Wow, I guess Boston has finally arrived to the big time (besides it’s schools).

My knowledge of Boston is based entirely on the movie “the town”…but isn’t Boston known to have many robberies (probably the most in the US per capita)?

That was a good movie. But honestly my impression of Boston is more like Good Will Hunting. I’m not sure about the crime statistics, but I’d be surprised if it was the highest. Nevertheless, things are clearly changing as there’s been a significant amount of development in many parts of the city, especially in area near all the shopping. So I’d expect more opportunities for robberies and actual episodes, unfortunately.

Only seen a Code chrono there once - had just arrived that day or so.
