5212a or 5524r

Looking for some advice.

I have an opportunity to buy an unused 5212A or a pre owned 5524R at relatively same price point. 5524R is about $3k more expensive.

This would be my second Patek. First is a 5196J. I will hopefully add more later.

5212 feels like it’s a great value but gold and brown on 5524 looks good.

Thoughts?

One hand up for 5524R.

Personal thought:
5524R looks like a modern Patek.
5212A is nice too, but it doesn't come to me as a "Patek"
I wouldn't be able to tell you why.

Also not a fan of the busy dial, although I have one from VC that's quite busy. (I just enjoy the power reserve, not so much of the day of the week)

My opinion might be biased as I want a pilot watch.
5524 when it came out, I was like dang.. who would buy that?
but I am beginning to like it more and more.

Thanks! Will be seeing both shortly. So will primarily look at what appeals in the moment. Just have to ignore my perception that SS Patek is probably a tougher find, and as such a better choice now.

Hoping also that 5524 won’t look too big. I am six two, so assuming will be able to carry it off.

5212a has one of the nicest, unique dial in the catalogue. The only problem is the strap which can be easily resolved. 5524 wears big.

5212a - unique complication from Patek and lovely piece on the wrist.

honestly, can't go wrong with either one. I think it's a matter of preference of rose gold watch or steel. Do you like a bit more flash, or do you want to be more under the radar?

Stainless patek > gold patek.

Thank you!! Decided to go with the 5524R… 5212A didn’t appeal on the wrist… also decided I have too many daily wear stainless steel and only one more gold… so 5524r felt like a statement piece

That said, the price point on 5212A was just too good, and was the bigger draw… as it’s harder to get. But went with what appealed in the moment. Thank you all!!

Well done! Congratulations! That would’ve been my personal choice as well.

Same decision I made! I think you’ll be pleased and thrilled. Every time this thing goes onto your wrist.
