Consolidation advice

I’ve been kicking around the idea of consolidating a handful of of watches (one or more in the second row) to go towards a watch in the third row. The first row are watches that I’m planning to keep. Any recommendations based on personal experience with any of these pieces?

Keep what you have.

Or...... Skip the third row and graduate to a member of the ahci or some quality independent with excellent hand craftsmanship and decoration.

First things first, your collection is amazing as it stands!

However if we making changes:

I’d keep the Overseas.

Sell the rest of row 2, as well as the calatrava.

Pick up the 5726 or 5164a

I’d shift the two explorers, the omega and the 6119 and add 5212 and 5320. Or better still: instead of the 5320 add a nice Moser or Ferrier to spice things up a bit.

You have a fantastic collection and I won't sell any of them if I'm in your shoes.

If i was making a move.. If the two in the first row are being kept for sentimental reasons then no doubt keep!

Good luck on your decision, an amazing collection you have!

Armin Strom offers something quite nice in that range. You can request some customization to make it more personal too. That's a benefit with some true independents.

It's an amazing, well diversified collection. I wouldn't change a thing.

I would trade all of row 2 except the ND Sub and get the 5164a. Nice collection!

Great collection! As for what I'd move out, I'd nix the Yachtmaster, the Polar Explorer II, the Explorer (looks great in photos, but in real life it was never my go to watch. Any other Rolex can do it's job an so can the RO if you choose to go for that), and also nix the Seamaster.

I'd keep the ND Sub and the Overseas. From the 3rd Row the only piece I really like is the RO. Most of the Pateks in row three don't do much for me. The only sports watch I'd want from them is the 5712 Nautilus on a bracelet in steel or rose gold. Wishing you lots of luck and fun with whatever you decide.

If I could get into a 5164 for a decent price, that might be the move! The explorer and seamaster are sentimental. Explorer was a gift from my wife for our 10 year anniversary, and the seamaster was my gift to myself after completing residency and starting my career. Thank you for the thoughts!

Exactly this.

Personally I'd also sell the 6119 and the Hulk of row 1 and get an additional row 3 watch such as the quirky 5212.

I would only keep the Explorer 2 from row 2 - a gem in the entire Rolex catalog.

I would add the 5212a and the 5320g as you don't seem to have a perpetual calendar.

Don't listen to people telling you to go to independents who are not Rolex, AP or Patek - far too much of an acquired taste.

You’re either not long enough, or way too long, on this ride to say this :-)

I’d get rid of the second row and get the Patek Perpetual in the middle of the third row!

All good, as you remind me of me about 10 to 12 years ago. Agree most just go on and follow the same typical path you suggest. It may indeed take time and education to reach the next level. Guess i was kinda hoping he'd skip the middle-ground years and get right to the next level.

I’d move the YM42 towards the 5164 or the 5320g. Hard to ignore the value of the PC. Both are rare examples of Patek nailing the dial side layout. I sold my 5164 and it’s maybe the only one I want back.

The 5164 would be my target in row 3.

They are all great watches that you don't need to get any advice. With the selection you have above, it is purely personal preference and taste (which will likely to change in future as I've experienced). I would personally add more dress watch but it is my personal preference. Happy hunting!

Great collection, but which watches you decide to let go may also depend on which you wear the least. Given the slight overlap, I would lose the YM42, Hulk, Explorer 1 and Omega to consolidate for the AP RO.

I'm late to the party here, but I'd get rid of the Yacht Master and get the Patek your want or the traditional Royal Oak.

If it were me, I would sell it all but one and end up with:

Submariner
AP 15500
PP 5164
PP Weekly Calendar

Personally, I would sell them all except the Pepsi + Explorer I or Sub and stretch to add a Patek 5270.
