Vintage Seamaster 300m

Hello everyone,

I've become quite interested in vintage Seamaster 300m watches from the 2000s era, and I'd like some advice from the forum. I'm unsure whether to go for a midsize or 41mm model, and I'm also torn between quartz and automatic movements. Additionally, I have a preference for the wave dial design. Could someone please assist me in getting started on this journey?

I think the Seamasters from the late 90's early 2000's are still waiting for the full recognition they deserve. I have six Seamasters, with two from this era, one from the 2012-18 era and three from the latest series. All have excellent qualities but for me the earlier models have better dimensions and an older charm. Both of mine are 41mm, so I can't really help on the 36mm v 41mm but I guess that is down to personal preference and to some extent wrist size. As far as mechanical v quartz, I have one of each. The 2231.80 despite being 19 years old, runs at +2 secs per day. The 2264.50 is my only quartz watch and I have it as a grab and go watch that I have taken everywhere with me. Prices of these 2000's Seamasters are very competitive, especially the 36mm and quartz and personally they come highly recommended.

I have one of the original blue 41mm ‘Bond’ quartz models. It was bought new back in the ‘90’s and it’s my current beater - it can take absolutely anything you can throw at it. Totally bullet proof and no worries whatsoever about accuracy or ever having to wind it. Not exactly rare but I agree they’re hugely underrated - I’ve only really come to fully appreciate it in the last few years when compared to how much I’ve ‘babied’ my others.

I love that period for Seamasters. I have a 41mm automatic 2531.80, but also want a 2254.50 like the black one pictured above with the big triangle of lume at 12 o’clock. Great watches. I wouldn’t get mid-size or quartz, but that’s just me.

I bought my 2006 automatic, full set about 5 yrs ago. It's become one of my very favorites.

Go Automatic. It's a marvelous miniature mechanical masterpiece

Outside of this period for Omega, I would always go mechanical but as Omega offered auto and quartz as equal options, I think they are both viable. If I were only buying one, I personally would go mechanical as it is a fantastic movement. If looking at more than one, then I'd mix it up. I don't like quartz but for this era of watches I think they are a great option and love the one I have.
