Agreed! I know what a 14060 is (Submariner ND 2-liner!), but only because I own one. And I didn´t even know that before joining this forum...

Reference numbers are easy to manage, I only need to know the numbers of those watches that interest me. It’s the cutesy nicknames that wear me down.

I remember most of the 5 digits that I collected. But then it all went to 6 digits and I gave up. I just use the abbreviations now. Batman, etc.

I’ve had the 4 and 5 digit reference down cold for years. The new ones with 11 and 12 are a bit annoying. Honestly there’s so much variation from Rolex these days that didn’t exist in the past. I echo the sentiment of just calling them by name.

I have the 5 digit references in my head. For newer references, I recall the descriptive names easier. For instance, I next want a 36/mm mint green DJ, on a Jubilee bracelet, with fluted bezel. I think the model number starts with 1262, maybe?

Some of these nick names are annoying.
“Starbucks”, that one is the worst. Who wants that attached to their watch reference.
Others don’t bother me as much, “ghost, bluesy, Pepsi”
Just my 2 cents
