116506 vs 126506: hands on with platinum Daytonas
Nice article and really great pics:
https://www.fratellowatches.com/hand...a-in-platinum/ Personally, I’d be fine with either one |

Thanks for sharing! I owned the first one but like the newer one more. Cleaner dial and seethrough caseback are clear winners for me.

Didn’t click on the link but I do love the new casback - but prefer the old dial, especially the diamond one :)

I would rather have the platinum case back than look at non attractive Rolex movement. I also much prefer the 116506 baguette version to the new one. The original version much more special to me on that one given the change.

I agree that with the baguettes, the dial is better when fully glacier, as that gives more space to the baguettes and overall feels more refined. |

116506 vs 126506: hands on with platinum Daytonas
This is a great article. All I can say is I am forever grateful for the opportunity to own this piece. And everything the article says about the new piece is true. I can only speculate that everything they say about the previous 116 version is true also. I love the look of the dial with the diamond indices however if I had the chance to own one I’m afraid my wife would insist on wearing it! So for me the non diamond markers it is!!
FYI the movement is truly beautiful. Sometimes I take the watch off just to see the movement through the caseback. |

Great article! This is on my eventual wish list. My AD says he gets one every 2 years.

Perfection….
If you want to see a nice movement check out Lange Datograph, Patek 5970, Omega 321 etc. Rolex movements are workhorses not show horses. Just my 2 cents. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I’d take either as well. Both are special time pieces

Admit that the referenced site is one of the few I find interesting. |

Firstly … I love this watch, and will run to my AD the day I get / if I get the call.
But … for those of you that own one … are you happy with the Brown Bezel ? I own / wear Nothing that is brown … no suits, sports jackets, pants, shirts (shoes only, and they’re really not brown brown). I keep thinking that this watch would be amazing with a Dark Blue Bezel around that Ice Blue Dial … but keep worrying that I will not be in love with the Brown Bezel, no matter how awesome the Ice Blue Dial is … ??? Is the king not wearing any clothes, and everyone is just afraid to say it out loud, or am I missing the boat on the Brown Bezel ? |

I’ve had a Platona and the chestnut brown bezel is no problem. But there is a precedent for your idea of blue…
Recall the RBOW bezel for Daytona? How about a gem set bezel full of these but cut as baguettes ? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Ding, Ding, Ding! My sentiments as well. I own the 116506 too and since it is the only one with no brown sundials it makes the watch unique and makes it blend with the Tiffany blue dial. The baguettes are the best diamonds for a mans watch. I feel fortunate in that the 116 dial did not have a very long run compared to the chocolate subdials.

This was my hesitation as well to purchase this piece. I wear zero brown so thought it wouldn’t work with my attire. But pulled the trigger in November while could still get the old version, and love it. The bezel changes color depending on the lighting and brown tones it down so not so contrasting with the dial. I like that on the new diamond model, the hands are the same as the non-diamond version, without a black strip down the middle.
The all-metal minute and hour hands look better to me. I wonder why on the original Platona, the main hands were different between the 2 versions. |

The black stripe is used only on the version with full ice blue dial to allow some contrast with the hands to dial, so easier to read. This isn’t needed/used on the ones with brown subdials as have that contrast with the brown already. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Would this same watch, with a Dark or Navy Blue Bezel surpass it ???? That’s the $84,100 question. |

I had the same thoughts. A dark navy bezel would look awesome! Would change from blue to black depending on the light. Mine looks black in low natural light at an angle, which looks cool. Wearing mine today on the first sunny day in Chicago in weeks. Vitamin D is lacking these days! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
