Help - which Lange

Help please. - which Lange

I am finally ready for a Lange. But I am stuck between the Saxonia thin or the Saxonia.

Please no advice on “go for a Lange 1 or calatrava etc”. This is where I am down to.

I was originally drawn to the Saxonia thin. However I was offered as an option a remaking Saxonia. The dial is perfect in my opinion but it is 35 mm and has an older moment. The Saxonia thin is a wonderful size and has a wonderful simple elegant dial but the small seconds hands and rail markers of the Saxonia are so beautiful.

Would appreciate opinions from others experienced in the brand. The discontinued watch could prove to be the coveted one yet sometimes things get discontinued for a reason.

For me waiting for Saxonia thin to grow to the upcoming41 mil holds no interest.

Have you gotten a chance to try on the 35mm? It's quite small and might look undersized for your wrist size.

Otherwise, have a look at the power reserve too. Older movements tend to have a smaller power reserve.

Besides this two points, I personally like the one with seconds the best.

Great advice!

I’d go 35mm saxonia personally. More versatile than the thin, which to me feels more like a “pure” dress watch.

Also I love the 35mm case since I have a smaller wrist and dress watches with clean dials like these wear larger for their case size imo. But that’s all a matter of taste—need to
try them on!

I personally am a big fan of small seconds watches so that would be my choice.

I would opt for the model with the subsidiary seconds. More balanced and useful. If that one is the 35mm, my does not wear small at all on my 6.5-inch wrist.

I would want some movement on the dial i.e. small seconds. But 35mm sounds small - Depends on your wrist

Personally,

I'd go for a Lange 1. Maybe even a Calatrava.

As a dress timepiece, a simpler dial wins imho.

I generally prefer small seconds, but the double baton hour markers at 3 and 9 have always bothered me on the saxonia model. Looks like cat whiskers to me. I don’t mind them at 12 on the thin.

Saxonia thin dresses down very easily with different straps.

I wear a Lange 1 most days, and still consider adding a Thin to the collection every few months.

Since the days of starting my collection with a Nomos Tangente many years ago, I love the small seconds "complication".

But here I'd go for the ultra clean dial and the thinness to max out the dressy look.

I like the small seconds more but 35mm is too small for me if you can pull it off that is the one I would go for.
I do not like a watch without a seconds hand.
I think it the seconds hand brigs the watch to life.

Neither of these will be coveted, so don't let that color your thinking.

I was just having this discussion last week with a friend who owns the 35mm Saxonia. He and I both have small wrists, about 6"/154mm diameter.

We both agreed that we prefer a watch with a running second hand -- the 35mm Saxonia to the Saxonia Thin. We like to see something moving on the dial. And 35mm is just fine for wrists like ours. It's proportional and looks great.

Make sure you've ruled out a Lange 1815, which I prefer to the Saxonia.

For me, 35mm is just too small. However, I do not like dead dials. I need to see some movement on the dial side.

There are so many other options in that respect from Lange. I'd go looking for other Lange models as well.

Agreed. I also prefer the 1815. Sub seconds and all the other wonderful attributes that it brings.

Also, since you like the rail markers and subseconds, consider the old Langematik without a date, if you're open to buying preowned. The Sax-0-Mat movement is mindblowing.
