Price differences in vintage 114270 explorer /16800 subs
I am in the market for a nice beater watch was hoping to spend 5-8k.
My targets are a 16800 matte black or a 14270 explorer i just dont get some of the price differences. I can see a 16800 for about 8500 and some for 14k. Also with the explorer i have seen 6 serial explorers go from 5k to 9k. 114270 Does anyone know why there is a large spread? Im leaning towards an explorer. I want something i can use daily as i dont like wearing my other pieces since they are just a lil too flashy. |

If I was in your shoes, I would grab a tritium holes case 14270 explorer. Those are priced right at the moment. I think you could find one for about $5.5k?

Spreads increase as watches get older and condition/set/expectations/attachment vary.
It's usually about the 90~100% on the bread and butter stuff like you quote if you put in 6538/1655/1016/5510 you'll probably find the spread is higher still.... I value nice loose matte 16800 at £9500, and a luggy trit' 14270 at £5000, and tbh I see then equally 'collectable' and the versions to get you have pinpointed!

Thanks to both of yall.
Yeah i was originally going for 5 serial 14270 as ive seen them under 5k lately. But i also saw 6 serial 114270 for about the same price from reputable dealers. I generally go for vintage but i was like hmm maybe I should go with the 6 serial explorer. Then like i always do I went to a shop and fell in love with a 16800 but the dial was a lil rough. So i was like maybe i should get the 16800. This is how i went from a datejust to a GMT last time. I fall in love with the prettier girl. LMAO. |

You would have to show photos, I don't think we can explain asking prices in general. Some of the spread may be due to legitimate differences in condition and originality, but there are definitely sellers asking silly prices.
