Loose screw after Rolex service

I sent my Pepsi in to have the bezel insert replaced and was told they would also service the movement under warranty. I paid $308 to have this fixed and it took 12-weeks from the time I dropped it at my AD until I picked it back up. That was 3-weeks ago.

I assume they completely disassembled the movement and broke down the bracelet and cleaned all the parts during the repair/service.

A few nights ago, I couldn't take off the watch because the safety clasp was hitting a screw on the jubilee bracelet and I couldn't get it open enough to unlock the clasp. I've worn this watch daily for 3+ years and never had an issue with loose screws on the bracelet.

The reason I reached out to the AD was just an FYI . . . heads-up kinda thing that they may want to report 'up the chain'. I emailed pics to my contact.

My AD seems to think that it worked itself loose in the last 3-weeks and it's just a coincidence and has absolutely nothing to do with the recent service. In fact, they are quite adamant that there's no way this was loose from the Rolex RSC.

Coincidence or not?

What does TRF think?

Screws do back out. Need to run your finger across them from time to time. Futile to try to assign “responsibility”.

Had two loose bracelet screws on my blro jubilee that were working their way out on their own. Removed all bracelet screws and applied purple locktite to the threads before resetting. There was not much resistance to get them out.

I think that is the screw I most often see loose in my shop. That area in particular gets a good bit of movement, which means that screw can be subjected to more rotational force. I've had to replace an unfortunate number of fliplocks because of that screw.

It could be that the loctite broke due to the heat and vibration of the ultrasonic cleaner. It could be that when the bracelet was sized, loctite wasn't properly added.

No responsibility to assign. My concern was the instantaneous denial and absolute refusal to consider that it was a possibility.

I know that screws can loosen themselves. I would have expected EVERY screw on/in this watch to be tightened prior to being sent back. There's no way that screw backed out in 3 weeks.

I guess I need to take my watch to have the screws tightened every 3-weeks?

Good catch though.

I habitually check my bracelets for proud screw heads or pins whenever I put a watch on because the can work out. If I'm wearing a Rolex 24/7 (which I often do) the Easylink or Glidelock is used to lengthen the bracelet when I shower. This is my cue to run my thumb along the edges of the bracelet to check for bumps.

Its a plain and simply fact all owners of Rolex watches should check regular the screws on any bracelets for tightness etc.

Did you pay for a full service or only 300$?

They would never do that without a service. And also with a service, there is no reason to break down the bracelet.

Most manufacturers seem to take denial as their initial stance which can be annoying.

Probably a number of reasons for this to happen and not totally coincident IMO. Good reminder to check screws periodically.

On a side note how did you shatter the bezel?

Pretty sure they did not brake down the bracelet, they never do. The bill is very cheap for a service. Probably they didn’t do that either.

It’s not uncommon for screw pins to come loose. Happened with my GMT as well. Just check every now and then

Get yourself the correct screwdriver I use a minute I mean minute drop of clear nail polish to stop it working loose I know I will get shot down for the nail polish comment

Or you can buy the correct screwdriver and handle it yourself.

That service was not done by Rolex if that is what you paid, and most certainly the bracelet was not taken apart.

I would be pissed if I sent in my watch for service and they tightened all the screws on my bracelet. One, I wouldn’t want the risk of tool marks or scratches. Two, this would break loose the Loctite unless they also removed each screw fully and reapplied Loctite.

Who originally sized the bracelet and did they use Loctite? My guess is they did not and the screw got loosened in the ultrasonic cleaner.

Be thankful that it didn’t fall out completely and that the watch fell to the ground getting lost or damaged.

After recent RSC my screws were so tight I broke a screwdriver taking a link out.
