Service Help 1967 Explorer
I have an Explorer (I believe it is movement 1016) I purchased new in 1967 and have been wearing since. If memory serves, it was overhauled in the late 1970s and in late 1990s/early 2000s. It runs just a tad slow, and the crown lock to the case has only about 1/8 turn of bite.
I thought time for another overhaul was long past due, so i brought it to a local Rolex dealer. The indication was that it could not be serviced locally and needed to be sent to the US Rolex Service Center, which I did. The news has just come back that they are unwilling to service it, apparently because of "lack of parts". The local dealer has been extremely helpful, telling me it has a slight tilt or wobble in the barrel bridge (if I understood that correctly). Because of its age, the barrel may not have a replaceable bearing. It needs lubrication. In the late 70s I replaced the band with a Rolex Submariner band. The dial was also re-lumed at that time with characters that have a green cast. This long post provides some background on the watch. It has been with me a long time in many places. I want to get it mechanically sound but really prefer to not refinish case, hands, or dial. Any suggestions of reliable watchmakers who may have the parts and inclination to help me would be appreciated. I am in the US Midwest. Thanks, Jim |

There are a few watchmakers who frequent the forum and specialize in older Rolex movements.
Phillip Ridley comes to mind and can be found at Ridley Arizona. There are others too if you search around.

I second that suggestion that Larry (Tools) made.

An independent watchmaker should be able to fabricate a new bushing for the barrel arbor, if that's what is needed. After so many years of deferred maintenance, there may be other parts needed as well.
