Kent in "Real Genius" wearing a Daytona 6265 --Rolex Spotting

Was watching the 80's classic "Real Genius" and noticed an oyster bracelet on Kent, the antagonist in the movie.
Waited to see what he was wearing, and damn, a black dialed Daytona 6265.
He wasn't even a star.

Maybe we should start calling the 6265, the "Kent Prescott Daytona".

Whoa, love that movie! Haven't seen it in many moons, though. Very cool there's a Daytona sighting in it!

You have to remember, in the early 80s, sport Rolexes were only worth a few hundred bucks!

I assume it was.
He was the only main character, I saw wearing a watch throughout the movie.

Watched that movie a few weeks ago and noticed he was wearing a nice Rolex. I would agree it was probably his own watch and not a movie prop!

Bumping this thread 5 year old thread...sorry....

I have watched and loved this movie since I was kid....haven’t watched it in a couple years and today was the first time that I noticed Kent wearing a watch with an oyster bracelet (which you can spot from a mile away) and what I thought was a daytona....sure enough quick google search and here we are.

The "Kent Prescott - Not Steve McQueen, Not Paul Newman, Nor James Bond - Daytona"

Thanks for bumping this. Love this movie! He plays such a good dick alongside the ultimate 80s movie dick William Atherton. A milgauss would have been more appropriate though.

Atherton is def at the top, but I’d put William Zabka right up there with him.

I've seen this movie a thousand time and for whatever reason didn't notice it before. there is a good closeup towards the end when he is smearing the grease on the laser to make it meltdown.

Hard to believe but they were not particularly expensive especially when heavily discounted...less than a GMT, sub, explorer as such.

Went into my AD in Upchurch in Colchester in UK in spring 1981, he had 3 Daytonas (2 *6263 and 1* 6265), that he'd taken out the window as they had not sold any at all in 6 months.

They were retail price £404 at the time and he asked me if i wanted one at half price £202.

However I was skint as I'd just bought two 1655 from him at half price earlier that year, so was not in a position to buy one...DOH !! :-/

Btw, £202 was about half about month's salary* in UK at the time, and was in today's money circa just £1200, so not a massive investment!

* Note - Wage inflation over 40 yrs is about 1.5 times price inflation so that 50% discounted Rolex Daytona would be about £1800 in today's money....boy they were cheap !!!

It’s not The Seventh Seal, but def. captures a moment in time. Plus, Val Kilmer has fantastic hair in it!

Funny. I went out for dinner and left the TV on by mistake. Came home and this was playing. Took me a second to figure out what it was. Really funny timing of this thread.

I still want to call the 6265, the "Kent Prescott Daytona".

I think this movie got an Oscar for the best movie ever.
