What happened to the discussions / threads about falling prices?

Is TRF not allowing discussions on falling prices anymore?

I think price trends is a great discussion to have for serious collectors who are spending serious money on their hobby...

This thread?

https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=862189

It got shut down. Turned into a tape measure session, LOL. And lots of bickering.

No news anymore. Watch market is declining around the globe
Figures of March MoM 2024 Swiss watch exports show a significant downfall, especially in China and Hong Kong.

I think that when prices first started going down, there were some. people in denial. Which created conflict.
No there is no denying it, it's just a matter of how much, is it going to go down further, which models are most affected.

The increase and decrease in values were not consistent across the board.

This is literally it. Just look at the bottom of the website. “You want to know who’s in power, ask who you can you not criticize?”

One was open for almost 2 years and ran 172 pages. It was obviously closed because of all the petty bickering and incivility. Another one, linked above in post #3, is still open. Feel free to go ahead and start another if you want.

At least we have this now but optically and chronologically it’s an interesting series of events.

A couple of years ago there were so many pricing threads that quite a few members were frequently complaining and reporting them, so they got either locked or merged into one thread, which was shifted to the WatchOut section. Dealing with those reports was also creating extra work for mods, who give up their free time to try and keep this place friendly and organized for no money or any other incentives.

So if people occasionally accuse us of being somehow in the pockets of trusted sellers, greys or whatever, or make similar suggestions, that doesn't go down well.

The money to keep TRF running comes from Pledge Members. I don't know how much those ads at the bottom of the page cost, but the payment only buys ad space, not favours.

When the current market conditions become so apparent, there is not much need for discussion anymore
The market is falling and anyone who says otherwise definitely has vested interest in watch prices.

I think I'm too stupid to read this graph. what does this graph say? if it's YoY sales (of grey market) then it means the market is decelerating but still seeing tremendous YoY growth at 40% for PP and AP. that doesn't sound correct compared to the other chart above that shows the industry is down across all regions in the world

Edit: actually I guess it's using jan 2021 as the comp price....makes sense. CAGR of +12% from 2021 vs 2024 is still crazy. hopefully it slows down though so we can get our watches from ADs and boutiques

Generally, price on secondary market grew over time, peaked in Spring of 2022, and then has been dropping ever since.

Any watch brand, prices should go down.. they are not an investment or should be considered one.

I mostly agree, except for vintage pieces in limited supply.

It doesn’t sound like you have an understanding of high end watches. There are many watches that could be treated like an investment. Guys buying stainless subs as an investment or constantly worrying about stainless Rolex prices is strange. But if you’re buying and holding vintage patek or vintage Rolex, the prices will not go down over long periods of time.
