Hacking on 1970 GMT?
Hello forum,
I recently acquired a Rolex GMT two tone root beer with serial number beginning with 273. Which I believe dates to 1970. When I pull the crown out, the movement hacks. The movement says 1570. Is it correct for this watch to hack? I have heard different opinions on when Rolex introduced hacking movements. Generally early 70 is what I have read. Apologies if this subject has been discussed and I missed a prior thread. |

According to my records, 2.73M is early in the hacking range. It probably has a 70 or 71 case-back, but I guess you would know that.
I've added your watch to my spreadsheet. 1,7XX,XXX 5513 non-hacking 1,777,XXX 1016 non-hacking 1,9XX,XXX 1675 non-hacking 1,95X,XXX 1625 non-hacking 2,31X,XXX 1807 non-hacking 2,411,689 1603 non-hacking 2,512,458 1601 non-hacking 2,61X,XXX 1601 non-hacking 2,63X,XXX 1803 non-hacking 2,696,505 1625 hacking 2,73x,xxx 1675 hacking 2,83x,xxx 1601 hacking 2,9XX,XXX 1803 non-hacking 2,922,104 1675 hacking 3,336,632 1603 hacking 3,3XX,XXX 1675 hacking 3,400,XXX 1680 hacking 3,796,XXX 5512 hacking 4,204,XXX 1675 hacking

Thank you for the response. It has a a third quarter of 1970 caseback.
