robbery at gunpoint in NYC

https://nypost.com/2024/06/19/us-new...arbone-in-nyc/

Occurred in daylight in one of the trendiest neighborhoods, and by one of the best restaurants. Yikes

Inside job? Perhaps another patron?

Anyway, that’s awful. Glad no one was hurt.

I was surprised to hear of this. It really makes no sense to wear a high dollar hyped up model in crowded urban areas anywhere these days. There are so many rural type places to still enjoy these watches.

Sounds like they had been watching this guy.
To 99% of the world 99% of Pateks look like a regular mall watch.
A Rolex is distinct and obvious but not a Patek.
Id be more worried wearing my DD40 YG than a Patek on a leather strap.

you're right, and 99% of the world isn't gonna be robbing someone so it doesn't matter what they think your watch looks like. these people have trained eyes that would even know what an airking looks like so while you would be safer wearing a calatrava or some kind of patek comp on leather vs a YG DD, if it's a nautilus on a strap it still stands out easily enough to be spotted. don't know what watch this guy had but i assume it's a nautilus and if that's the case he had no chance if he was being targeted

the whole concept of under the radar only makes sense in the context of being around normal people that you wouldn't want to stand out in front of

people on instagram are able to identify APs/pateks in tiny candid photos of celebs these days so it's a different world

Tren De Aragua.
Extremely violent Venezuelan gang committing robberies all over NYC.
They work in pairs and groups and utilize mopeds, motorcycles and cars to smash and grab watches, phones, necklaces, rings, iPads, etc etc. They have been known to demand your keys and wallets too - so now they know where you live. Be very cautious!
Bottom line to prevent being a random target:
Wear long sleeves to cover your watch.
Don’t walk and surf the net on your phone.
Do not wear expensive chains and rings.
Be in a group if possible while out and about in NYC.

I routinely wear my Pateks and RM in crowded Chicago Restaurants outside on the sidewalk.

No worries - It's called insurance.

What could possibly be the difference between Hong Kong and New York.

Life insurance… I’m sure that will serve you well next time one of your Chicago thugs pulls the trigger.

You're right, that's why I only wear my watch on my own Montana ranch

The report lacks any detail about witnesses or security video of the crime. For the time being we must take it as 90% true.

Why say 90%? Because 10% of the time, alleged robbery/loss of jewelry/watches are fraudulent reports just to get an insurance settlement.
