Is tag heuer worth it anymore?

I feel like the brand’s image has been depleted. An omega or Tudor are way more prestigious at this point. What has happened?

Grey market destroyed resale value which in turn brings down prestige

I think it's more your change in perspective than the watch line itself.

It might be bolstered in the next few years by their continual presence in F1 sponsorship.

No innovation on design language. They really did a great job with the kirium line, and the link - it was always about standing out with an avant- grade design and balanced out with the heritage of the Monaco and Monza models. Now - it’s littered with boring Carrera models and discount or not, it’s no longer cool.

I’ll relay my recent experience. The CARRERA
CHRONOSPRINT X PORSCHE is a fine looking watch with some novel complications.
Went into my local Tag shop (owned by WOS) to have a try on.
Fitted ok and I liked the design. The watch wasn’t running at this point. ‘Ok for me to wind it?’ The assistant said ‘just wait a second and pass the watch back’. He then started going on about how good the autowind was and started to give the watch a few shakes in an attempt to start it. He was convinced that was all it would take. Well it didn't start. A few turns on the crown failed to start it as well. With that one of his colleagues came over. After some discussion the watch was taken to the back of the shop and returned in a minute or so, seemingly running. ‘All OK now’ I was told. ‘Well if thats what it takes to start this thing then I think I’ll pass’. A quick thank you and a speedy exit.
Surely an isolated incident but enough to put me off Tag and WOS altogether.
I still think its a lovely looking watch but theres no way I would buy one now.

The glass box chronos are a good leap forward (or backward depending on your POV) in design, but nothing else appeals, I speak as a longtime Monaco chrono owner who still enjoys the piece but it was a gift from my wife so has sentimental merit.

I like the brand and enjoy some of the remakes of references from the 60's-70's.

I think after many dark years, recently they are on the up again, ever so slightly. Many of their recent stuff like the aquaracer series and the box chronographs are very nice and occupy a segment in the market.

Tag is one of the brands that will begin using the Tudor/Kenissi movements.

They are a well-recognized brand with good value and are LVMH biggest selling watch brand. [/QUOTE].

Tag has not been worth it since the mid 80s

Im really curious why LVMH doesn’t get rid of the “TAG” altogether and goes back to Heuer. The limited edition 60s anniversary Carrera with the Heuer logo (without TAG) was one of the best watches they released in a long time. I was so close to getting one but it was released just after a major watch purchase I made so I couldn’t justify it at the time. Still want to own one though.

Heuer is one of the few watch brands that LVMH can play with so I assume they will keep investing in the brand.

The biggest mistake the brand made beyond the “TAG” was probably the distribution strategy that just lacked any kind of exclusivity.

Not a bad shout. Perhaps keep the ‘Tag’ Heuer for the F1 range? Talking of which, is there any word about the original F1 watches being released outwith the Kith collaboration?

I'm increasingly fond of some the glass box Carreras and I love some of the Monacos. Particularly the titanium with the yellow seconds hand and some of the skeletons.

I find the RRP a little confusing all things considered, but I guess that's just the market we are in.

If I came across a highly discounted used model I loved, I would be more than interested.

My intro into watches was a TH in the mid/late 90's - was my fathers and came to me after he purchased a Sub. Purchased an Aqua Master in early 2000's and it's still going strong today, took many of a beatings throughout my 20's.

Long ago, they were one of the watches to have.

I don’t think the question is “are they worth it any more?” I think it’s “are they becoming worth it again?”

Like many brands, they seem to be upping their price point which I’m not sure will help them - they will likely just offer even better value as a used purchase.

I like the new glassbox chronos, especially the one with the date at 12 oclock.

This is the only TAG in the current catalog I am interested in, however that is better than before the glassbox.
