Interesting 5226G Review in Robb Report

Just saw an interesting review in the RR (I don’t subscribe but it popped up in one of my feeds.)
Can’t seem to paste a link, but if you’re interested, worth trying to find it. FYI I saw it on Flipboard…

I’m a 5226g owner but found the review a bit cheesy. I do love the watch though.

For stealth wealth and horological beauty there is no better piece than the Perp Cal 5320G in cream IMO.

The 5226G is up there, no doubt about that.

Awful review.

If it was steel then maybe, and that’s a big maybe, it would be interesting for collectors. As-is, it’s just another “try to make something sporty that we can still call a Calatrava” but also make it in white gold instead of steel so we can get the entry level buyers in at $40k. The hobnail is the redeeming feature versus something like a 6007 which is serving the same purpose in the line.

The watch isn’t bad or anything but it’s not a classic and it won’t be collectible.

I thought something like the 5212 would be but they produced it for too many years.

The author is romanticizing the watch a bit too much, but that's what I'd expect from a luxury magazine. His point is that the 5226g is excellent execution on stealth wealth, and its timing is great because most people are sick of hype around a handful of sports models.

5226g has been my daily since I acquired it, so clearly Im biased

Nothing PP makes is stealth wealth…if u want stealth wealth, buy Moser endeavor tourbillon or watches like that. No branding, 6 figure price tag with nothing to show for other than horological prowess.

They could have at least pushed the crown in all the way for the photos.

I tend to disagree - the fact that big collectors like Horology Ancienne (the Instagram account) are rocking a 5226 makes me believe that the watch MAY be collectible.

They bought into it at a time when it was a mini hype piece and only people with a strong relationship could get it at MSRP.

I know a guy with piece unique application stuff from Patek who would also get the first steel blue dial Skydweller or stuff like that because it’s pocket change so why not?

I think something like the 5212 which is steel, and their first weekly calendar, let’s say they made it for two years. That’s collectible.

This one, no way.

It's pretty basic and already trading under secondary by about 20% off retail.

I dont think anything under 50k in the current catalogue will be collectible. There’s no niche or under the radar watches as far as I can see. Yeah the 5212 but that’s been produced for 5 years by now. And the 5235R is niche but that’s been on the market for about 5 years as well and it had nothing of the production hiccups of the G. So: nah.
