The underlying browny/redness of the dial is what I love of a 64-65 (66 seems late btw) Singer Dial, when they turn, and the gilt lettering and plots are mint....

Such a shame about the cracking.

The description is a smidge hyperbolic, but not as bad as some last few years eg Tropical Watch etc

It is what it is though, (I personally would still have this over a later matte service dial in-situ), and tbh £11,000 for a gilt MTR first is v cheap and reflects the damage/patina.

The lume is still in tact, I can’t imagine this happening to a dial of mine. I assume it took many years.

Is this Jackson Pollock's old watch ? I like it's aesthetics but how'd it get this way? Water ingress or house fire survivor maybe?

I've never understood the increased value of a tropical dial anything. Any valuable painting that's been hung in sunlight and had it's colors bleached is always worth much less. With watches though, it seems it's taken as proof that the dial is genuinely old. But without documentary proof to support a long term ownership in the sunshine, that really should be viewed with skepticism.

Like this watch though. Priced under market according to a wiser head than mine and a true one of a kind now. Ticking sweet enough now thanks to Greg Petronzi so what's not to like? Art watch defintely works for me. It's definitely had a life, but here it is now warts and all and it's still telling the right time. Got to respect that and in comparison to tropicals, it's defects are unique.

It’s not an awful deal, many of the tropical watches that get funny nicknames end up way over priced imho.
