I was looking for a reason to buy one of these and never felt compelled….. Now I will be buying one of these Legendary Moonwatches soon.

I tend to agree. I happen to think it's the best looking watch as well. Mu only minor complaint is that I wish it were a touch smaller in diameter. But it still doesn't change my glowing opinion of it. It's my current daily.

if only it was waterproof! what happened to the ones the astranouts wore when hey landed in the sea?

Nothing bad happened to them. They're rated for 50m, and when Omega says 50m, they mean it. You can swim with it - I've worn mine swimming with no problem at all.

I don't know, The Submariner, though similar looks a bit different now than it did from its inception (I would say not for the better, visually).

The Speedmaster Professional looks almost 100% the same. Does make it even more iconic? Maybe. I tend to think so.

I just ordered a Speedmaster today after reading this post. Should be here Thursday. I have a couple rolexes and a Panerai. I love those watches as they all mean something to me; however, I've wanted a Speedmaster for a long time for a very particular reason.

My first real watch was an Omega seamaster from years ago. I got married in that watch, and sold it as part of a down payment on our first house together. The little logo on the back of many Omega watches is a character known as a hippocampus.

I am a type of psychologist by training who practices neuropsychology. I specialize in functional neuroimaging, tractography, and brain mapping for neurosurgery. When people think of awake brain surgery, I'm the guy that is there with the patient who is awake - talking to them and monitoring their cognitive abilities. I'm also the guy who helps the neurosurgeon know where not to cut and understand the risks of surgery in particular areas of the brain. Much of my research has involved a part of the brain known as the hippocampus. It's important for memory.

Given my work and my research, that watch symbol has always meant a little more to me than probably the average person. Anyway, after I sold that seamaster I told myself I would get a hesalite Speedmaster so that I could once again wear my hippocampus. I've purchased and sold several watches, but never replaced my Omega. Saw this post and figured it was time.

Same here Mike ... well I actually can’t swim which is well documented here, but I’m not afraid to wade around with it the in the pool 50 meters is a real thing in Omega land.

And they test it well beyond 50 meters. And 50 meters is a LONG way under the water. I'm sure as hell not going down that low. I wouldn't scuba dive with a Speedy, but it can handle any regular swimming activities, no problem.
