Thinking of a 6309 or Willard, help me out!

What should i be looking for? I have had a few skx’s over the years, i usually give it to a friend after a few months of wearing it. It’s been a cool way to get people into watches. But now i want something vintage and i am between a 6309 or a Willard.

I know the Willard’s quite a bit larger, and i am leaning towards a 6309. Am i right in thinking around $500 for a 6309 and $1500-3,000 for a Willard?

Does the SKX lack something to cause you to give it away? I've tried on the Willard a few times and it's fairly flat, so not too big, IMO. However, it left me feeling a little meh : /

I ended up going with a king turtle and love it.

Not really, always liked them. But i just thought it was an inexpensive way to get buddies into watches. One of my friends is still wearing one i gave him years ago. The Willard does look pretty large. Maybe I’ll take a look at the king turtle.

They're both great watches, and what you go for will depend on a number of factors.
They both wear very well. The 6105 will actually wear a little flatter on the wrist, but the 6309 is also very comfortable.
It's a bit harder to find a 6105 with dial and hands in great condition because the lume tends to go funky if the case isn't well sealed (even if it isn't subject to water ingress). The crown is a challenging one to re-gasket because it can't be replaced without deconstructing the crown.
The 6309 is much easier to make water resistant so more of them seem to come with a very nice dial and hand set.
Both movements are easily serviced, but donor movement parts for the 6309 are much more readily available.
In either case, do your research and make sure you're confident the dial, hands, bezel insert and crown are all original - after market parts are common.
Just to thrown another idea out there, the slim cased 6105-8000
Is also a great watch (but it has the same "disadvantages" of the 6105-8110).

Oh i like it! I picked this SPB317J1 as a bit of an in between watch i could wear when im working on the house or in the gym and sauna, it arrived today and i am thrilled with it.

Thanks! This is my sweet spot so i probably won’t dive into too many seikos that are much larger than this.
