Should I........looking for opinions
I'm reaching out to the community for some expert/seasoned (or jusT plain old) opinions on a Rolex Oysterquartz that I'm considering purchasing. I've attached pictures of the watch, and I'd greatly appreciate it if you could take a look and provide your feedback regarding its authenticity and condition. The seller has been mentioned on RF dating back 10+ years or so. Seems legit lol
Oddly enough i was about to find a ton of information on rolex oysterquartz watches. cool history to say the least. oysterquartz.net was a great resource and https://www.bobswatches.com/rolex-serial-numbers. Here are the specifics of the watch: Model: Rolex Oysterquartz Dial Color: Rolex OysterQuartz 17013 Case Size: 36mm Serial Number: A4692** Movement: Quartz Condition: unpolished Rolex OysterQuartz with papers, intact hologram |

It looks great. The OQ will be very obvious if it’s over polished or poorly polished. This looks like a nice example (but who knows if unpolished).

Looks fine to me and possibly not worn. Nice piece. My only advice is don’t pay too much more for an potential unworn piece, over a light wear/mint one...as 1) once you wear it you’d knock that premium off it and 2) if you don’t wear it, downstream (selling) buyers don’t realistically pay much extra for an unworn example of a fairly plentiful/common watch.

Beautiful watch…
But instead of paying a premium for the 17013 quartz, I’d look for a nicely preserved and rarer 1630. Which is the same watch with the 1570 automatic movement and all gold center links. https://www.watchcollectinglifestyle...-looking-watch

Congrats on considering a Rolex Oysterquartz! From the details and the seller's long-standing reputation, it sounds promising. The watch's history and condition seem solid, especially with the intact hologram and papers. It's great that you've done your research on sites like oysterquartz.net and Bob's Watches. If everything checks out and you love it, go for it! Enjoy the unique piece of Rolex history!

Just curious if that’s a published figure.

I imaged from a collectors POV the OQ would be an easy grab given the history and rarity. Estimated 25k made and i believe the only quartz model ever made ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ |

I think a 1630 as nice as the OQ above would be more expensive than $8k I don’t know a ton about the reference, but super sharp ones seem rare and expensive when I see them. I like the watch above. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

NO.
Common knowledge. But I have been buying mechanical upper echelon watches for 50+ years - and have never seen a robust market for pre-owned battery powered(quartz) watches - only quite the opposite (basically a graveyard of unwanted watches)….. |

What I do know is risk, risk management and the avoidance of risk - This is a very risky niche market (non-mechanical Rolex) therefore it is a cat and mouse game of pricing and who blinks first. For perspective, just know that I’m a senior citizen, so what seems obvious to me, may not be so apparent to others. I can tell you, from my firsthand experience, that old 36mm two tone battery powered Rolex are not exactly in vogue or in demand - and being able to buy and flip for a gain might not be realistic. Good Luck and Caveat Emptor! PS If you want to PM me to discuss further you are welcome to do so….. |

I have twelve 9130 and 9140 Integrale Tudor Quartz pieces and quite a few Rolex Oyster quartz too, and they seem well sought after, when reluctantly, I have sold one or two in the past 40 yrs.....PS I note that most OQ on C24 seem to centre around £4-6K, so not exactly worthless giveaways !

Dealers are looking for cash-flow churning over profitability at mo (esp as stock value dropping about 0.5-0.8% per month according to C24/sub-dial and a few other databases I have access too). A very simple example - using your $5000 of capital with churn rate of 4 times a year (c 90 day churn), and making just $500 profit a time, is better than 2 sales a year (180 day churn) making a near double $900 profit per watch. Been analysing mkt for some academic work and Watchfinder in UK have been doing this - slashing their margins for sales (and higher churn rate), but such is the mkt, they have still halved profits this year over last !

On C24 there are about 100,000 men’s Rolex watches listed and less than 1000 of them are battery powered (LOL) - So you are certainly in that fractionalized area - but since you are happy and quite content - I in turn, am happy for you and respect your choices…..may you live long and prosper! |
