Hypothetical Trade

Does the forum think at a retailer that sells both used Rolex as well as Glashutte Original that I would be able to negotiate a straight up trade of a 2023 Rolex Sub Date LN with minimal wear marks for a new SeaQ Panorama Date?

We're talking $10,250 vs $13,000 retail difference brand new and obviously the sub is worn (but they could sell for more than retail in used cabinet...). And I think the GOs are normally up for negotiation.

I doubt you will find an even trade from a trusted seller.

It would be a fair trade... But most dealers I know don't like fair trades... haha. Good luck.

Fair point, haha

The Rolex sub is basically like a currency. The GO obviously would be much harder to move if I wanted out eventually.

I really like the GO, but not buying any more watches anytime soon, but I think I could live with parting with sub.

Dealers want to make $$ on both sides of the transaction. I think you will be surprised by the offer.

You never know. I traded in my 3 year old TT Daytona to purchase a PM Daytona and my AD gave me what I originally paid for the watch minus the taxes. Doesn't hurt to ask.

This is what I noticed too. Ridiculous offers all around. If greys are no longer doing their job keeping liquidity in the market I wish them good luck. I will happily trade with private collectors and save everyone a boatload of cash.

Personally I'd sell the Sub to the dealer that makes the best offer and then use the funds to buy a used GO. You'll come out ahead by a lot and not get crushed if you ever want to sell your GO.

If you're dead set on getting it new then I think you can make it happen any dealer should discount it quite a bit as they're not flying off the shelves despite how awesome of a watch they are.

I've definitely had some absurdly insulting offers in the last year but have also had 3 extremely fair trade ins as well so there are still solid companies out there.

One example between two dealers there was around a $15k difference. I'll never open the lowball offer's site again and the fair offer has sold me 3 watches and taken in two of mine in the last year and I check their inventory weekly.

Buy the GO used at 50-60% of MSRP and sell the Sub for the best offer you can get. Not likely you can trade a used Sub for that new GO at any AD or even Grey.

I would sell the Sub and look to buy the GO separately.

As others have said, get the GO and sell the Sub. If that is too much of a hassle, reach out to Topper Jewelers in Burlingame CA. They will do a trade and carry GO. Should be able to get a discount on the GO.
