Easylink 24/7?

It’s like 100° in Houston right now. I’ve been wearing my easylink “out” almost continuously. I remember reading somewhere that you really shouldn’t wear it “out” all the time. Is that a real thing or did I dream that?

I see no issue. It shouldn't wear differently. You may have read that but there are also those who say you shouldn't wear a Rolex in the shower.

Yes, no difference, that’s what it’s for, the heat has been really bad over here too. Been wearing the Apple Watch in the day due to the adjustment ease, unless I have plans and what to wear something nice.

I don’t see why it would make any difference at all in terms of overall bracelet wear. Rolex watches are precision-engineered to be the toughest mechanical wrist-watches made.

That’s what she said

On a serious note I asked my SA this question picking up my BLNR. Has been selling and serving Rolex watches for 3 decades and he said it can be worn open all the time with no issue. I was between adding one link and leaving the easy link open, or adding two, and I’m glad I just went with the one. Especially now I’m losing a few pounds and if I’d have gone for two links I’d be back at the AD getting one taken out (and we all know how reasonably priced Rolex bracelet links are LOL)

That makes me wonder, How many people actually change their own Links at home have their own screwdrivers that are specific for Rolex do it according to the proper procedure using the medium strength Loctite Etc compared to how many people go into the ad to have their links added or taken out. Maybe somebody could start a thread with a question about do you change your own links on your Rolex bracelet or do you take them into the authorized dealer to have that done. I do realize some people just wouldn't feel comfortable doing it on their own or perhaps they're not mechanically inclined enough to do that type of detailed work.

I'm currently living in Hong Kong with similar temps and worse humidity. Have been daily wearing mine extended for three months now and have not experienced any issues.

I added a link back to my bracelet, so that the easy link would only be used when absolutely necessary. If you’ve done that, you’re fine. The heat wave will pass. We’ve had 3 digit temps for several weeks straight, so I know the feeling.

I’m always kind of surprised by the amount of people on here that do in fact take watches to an AD to have a watch sized. I do it all myself. I’ve got all the screwdrivers and spring bar tools and I switch bracelets around all the time. At first I’d use some jewelers tape on the back of the lugs to mitigate scratches but if you have a good set of spring bar tweezers it’s easy work. Same with switching links. I have rebuilt entire cars from the wheels up so I guess I am a bit more inclined to this sort of thing than some

If I had the Easylink out most of the time I would add another link. Won’t hurt it but I’d rather keep it for limited use.

I see nothing wrong. My wife wears her OP with the easy link out all the time, its what gave her the perfect fit. If I remember correctly, we actually did it that way at the boutique when buying it and the agreed that it was perfectly fine to wear it that way all the time.

Exactly my thought, and why I added a link back. Rolex bracelets are notoriously short, though, so some folks may not have that option. I still have another extra link, though. And I do have all the necessary watch tools and the correct Loctite formula on hand. Total geek, here.

I'm confused—what impact does the easy link being extended have on the bracelet's integrity?

None, seems to be the consensus. Some of us just prefer to use it only as needed.

The EZ link is a j-slotted link, and by itself has less cross-sectional strength than a regular link has.

When locked around the spring bar, that bar adds additional support to the thinner j-cut part of the link, when deployed that thinner part of the EZ link would fail under less lateral load than a full link would, or the link when mated with the spring bar.

Thanks for that very thorough detailed explanation. I had a feeling. It bothers me that an SA, at any AD, would permanently size it that way, rather than provide an extra link to a customer, if needed.

I believe Larry posted this before, and he is an expert. So everyone who is using it as a permanent link, please add a link back to your bracelet, even if you have to source an extra one. You don’t want to risk having your bracelet fail, and risk losing your watch.

Let’s look at “strength” in context here. Strength is a sliding scale and Rolex designed the easy link to be more than strong enough in any position. Rolex over engineers their bracelets on purpose for this reason.

Look at a 5 digit Submariner stamped clasp and divers extension and that is designed to go over a wet suit to be strong enough. That certainly feels significantly more flimsy yet it has been good enough for a dive tool for decades. Is the bracelet stronger with the dive extension in? Sure, but it’s more than strong enough for commercial diving over a wet suit with the extension out so it still comes down to strength in context.

One could easily use the easy link out for a more loose relaxed fit or when it’s hot and in for more of a tight secure for high motion activities like swimming, etc.. Its flexibility is its design intent and doesn’t need to be concerned about its strength unless you are putting it through a YouTube torture test to purposely make it fail then all bets are off.

I like to size my own stuff to be able to dial in my fit. I am a two links out guy but I do wish Rolex made more half links. Only my 6 digit sub has one.
