YM Platinum Vs Rhodium dial

First of all I apologize for my basic English, I am writing with the help of google (which will help me read the answers).
I was considering purchasing a YM. Do you think the historic platinum dial or the new rhodium is better?
I prefer the brightness and exclusivity of platinum and the baby-blue details of rhodium.
Basically I would be more oriented towards the historical, but difficult to find in the 6-digit reference with the new closure.

Thanks in advance to everyone who wants to participate.

I prefer the rhodium dial, better contrast and not quite as monochromatic looking

YM Platinum Vs Rhodium dial

The Rhodium is my favorite Yacht Master. It pairs great with a Miami blue strap. Mine wasn't as nice as I'd like because of the prior owner's neglect. I ended up trading it away. It’s a terrific watch!!! For me the Pt dial is a bit boring.

The original platinum dial with red accents will always be my favorite YM.

Platinum 16622...when the sunlight hits that dial, shimmer and sparkles! Very hard to capture in pictures. I put a red date wheel from the Turn-o-graph into it for the extra splash of red.

I prefer the gentle sparkle of the 116622 pt dial. It's pretty cool and unique. Most of the time it's quiet, self-confident and understated, which suits me. But when it's time to shine, it knows how to do it without going crazy overboard, as opposed to a retina scorching sunburst dial. The PT dial oozes class, to me at least.

Also, with the rhodium, I see a slight clash between the painted brass dial and the sandblasted PT bezel.

Having said that, I'd still wear the rhodium especially on an overcast day, but would never replace my PT with one.

Obviously it’s personal taste. I love my original platinum dial, especially its sparkle. That being said, I also personally prefer monochromatic watches. They are a cohesive whole to me.

I'm looking at the same decision for my first sports watch, but including the polar explorer on my list too. Kinda leaning PT myself - love the sparkle and great photos above ^^^

I had the rhodium dial for a couple of years. It’s a great wearing and comfortable watch. I sold it because it became a sacrificial lamb and it was starting to become hard to read at quick glance.

I prefer the look of the rhodium, but both are lovely. I say get whichever one you can find.

The original platinum was my first Rolex and I love the subtlety of the tone-on-tone with the little splash of red from the second hand and text. The frosted dial is also special because I don’t think any other Rolex model has it, so it makes it more unique. I have the midsize and it’s all around the perfect watch for me. Still gets the most wrist time out of all my Rolexes.

Both are nice but Platinum gets my vote. I had one a while back but sold it. Today, I wish I still had it.

I have a rhodium (now called slate), but the 116622 platinum is very compelling a media blasted dial. It is very rare as it soon went out of production leaving just the blue dial and rhodium. I strongly feel the low production with all the bracelet changes, will make it an appreciating classic at some future date.

WOW. That's wild. I like that a lot!

My father has the 16622 & I can confirm: the dial sparkles in the sunlight. It is not as boring as it looks in some photos. With the exception of the "oxblood" Daytona (on brown leather, I think?) I don't know of another one with red seconds hand.

On the scale of Submariner to Datejust, I feel the YM leans toward Datejust.

Another rhodium vote. He darker dial and baby blue are beautiful and really great contrast to the whole watch.

Bring back the first generation Platinum dial!!! that dial was so beautiful with its grainy/sand-papery texture...it did incredible things in the light...put that dial on the a 40mm Oyster-flex White gold Yachtmaster....oooy I would be all over that.

Between these two I prefer the original platinum dial. I also like the blue dial over rhodium.

I prefer the darker dial. More contrast and thus it pops more.
