Interest in ellipse 5738/1r
Hi guys,
May I if any forum members have hands-on experience on this new model? how does it look on your wrist? my partner is interested in this piece, but she has a smaller wrist of 14-15cm, so I am not sure whether it looks big. Also I heard that there are 5-6 people on the waiting list of this model from my AD, and I am surprised to know this given that the ellipse is not so well popular before. Ellipse has been quite popular with the rise of shaped watches.
I have been spotting few of them while traveling recently. I have a preference for vintage Ellipse as the 5738 is larger and thicker. It felt too big on my 16cm wrist. Vintage are also good value for now…compared to current retail prices. |

The Ellipse wear large and I can't see how a 5738 should work on someone with a 14 or 15cm wrist. My wrist is 16.6cm and flat and I'd pick 3738 for size reasons.

It's indeed quite big, though not thick. You can find a review on a 16 cm wrist here: https://www.hightime-reviews.com/pat...-and-pictures/
I'm surprised to hear that the waiting list would be long for an Ellipse. Maybe you should call 1 or 2 other AD to confirm? |

I have no "hands on" experience but I have experience with this unique chain type of bracelet.
It has a permanently brazed/soldered clasp piece on each end. There are 3 adjustments but on a 15cm wrist it will ride around like a bangle. It is a beauty and should be worn as a jewelry watch so my comment is not a negative - just informational. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

The 1R is a beauty although I am not sure I could pull it off. Also EUR 60k would be hard to swallow when the 3738/1J can be had for EUR 15-20k with a better size for the Ellipse on top IMO albeit with a less attractive bracelet. |

I thought the links are also adjusted together with micro adjustment in the clasp, aren't they? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Agree with you that the old bracelet is not attractive. Thats why my partner wants to try the new one that is more expensive. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

No the chain links are fixed.
The 3 adjustments are via positions in the clasp. A good article I found worth reading: https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/th...-on-a-bracelet Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

My pleasure, even if I just noticed you were aiming at the new bracelet version, not the strap one :p Maybe a woman can enjoy playing with colorful straps though.
I agree, to my classical western taste, it was a little too large. For a smaller wrist, even if ladies can wear big watches/braclets as a decorative object (like a Panerai or a diver Rolex), it might not be the easiest one to enjoy that way. |

Love the 5738R, great dress watch.
17cm wrist. Perhaps too big for your missus, but perhaps worth considering for yourself!

The Elipse has really grown on me and with this years release with it on a bracelet, really makes it such a beauty
