A Mexican 'Root Beer" GMT.

Hello members. I just finished managing a GMT two-tone restoration for a fellow collector on a 1972 GMT 1675`"Root Beer" which happens to wear an original Mexican two-tone bracelet. While the two-tones weren't made in massive quantities, finding one with an original Mexican Jubilee with the correct clasp and end links is a bonus. It also wears its original and unaltered tritium dial and hands along with the original bezel and bezel insert.

The collector was quite pleased with the final outcome and thought it would be nice to share with fellow collectors. With that said, enjoy the photos and if anyone wants to add some photos of their Mexican or two-tone GMTs, feel free to do so.

Great looking watch and restoration. If I was the owner I’d be made up with the end result

Looks amazing Springer! What was included in the restoration? The case looks perfect! Did Zimmerman have a hand in that? Mine, which has seen some action… Serial number is 324xxxx

Thanks for sharing your "Root Beer." Ir's a very nice example indeed.

Regarding your question, yes, the case was professionally minimally refinished but not by Zimmerman. Additionally, the bracelet was tightened in a couple areas and the watch was fully serviced.

Did they need to add any material to the lugs as they look amazing? Any pics before restoration? I too would love to see some more pics of other Root Beers from other forum members. @Trog has a great example! My watch with a service insert and I will admit to bastardizing the end links with some 450s. And yes, for the record, I do have all the original parts.

Love that variant. Beautiful work and watch!

I’ve always wanted/been intrigued by a Mexican braceleted Rolex. I’ve always loved Rolex and my wife is Mexican and I really love the country. It seems really hard to find one unfortunately. I think I’ve only ever seen one for sale.

You're right Brian. They are not easy to find and if I had to bet, I'd say most ended up in Texas and a couple of other states.

The main dealer that sourced these bracelets was located in San Antonio.

Good luck in your search.

Magnifico John.

I had a Root Beer with the USA loop twotone bracelet. I noticed this one had a very clean case between the lugs. Mine did too. The old endlinks do preserve the mid cases between the lugs.

Wow John, that’s a stunner, well done

Is that the original clasp? The logo looks to be in amazing condition given it’s age.

I believe it is original to the bracelet. As a footnote, Joske's made these bracelets until 1986 when they discontinued their production of the Mexican Jubilee.

Great watch! The works looks great. I love a nice root beer. My favorite reference. I used to have one with a Mexican bracelet years ago.

Picked up a 1675 root beer recently. Need to verify a few things and tighten the bracelet.
