Having a hard time deciding between the two.
Hi all,
Hoping someone can give some advice and perhaps an opinion as l'm having trouble deciding between two watches I am interested in. The first choice is the Datejust 116200 and the second is an Air-King 114234 with the white gold fluted bezel which is ever so slightly smaller in size 34mm compared to the date just at 36mm. Both are on oyster bracelets although the Air-King hasn't got the polished links down the middle like the Datejust has. My only other concern is that there is a slight difference in size between the 34 and 36 but not sure it is that noticeable to in real life. Initially I was drawn towards the DJ until someone mentioned the Air King with the fluted bezel because I initially wanted a fluted bezel but on the other hand there’s no date window so now I’m stuck. Attached are photos of both for reference too. Thanks in advance |

Try to find a 36MM Fluted DJ - they are out there. I’m with you on not being able to decide - I like the bigger 36MM but the fluted bezel on the AK is great. Good Luck

DJ for me, but not the late 2000s model as pointed out here. I'd rather a 16200 :D

I REALLY like that AK! Cool dial and bezel seems slightly smaller than the DJ's, which I also like. No Cyclops and no PCL's are both positives for me. It's also a slightly more unusual watch that you won't see everyday.

The size difference is quite noticeable on the wrist, mostly from a lug-to-lug perspective, rather than case diameter.
Out of the two, I'd probably go AK and ditch the fluted bezel. Even at 34mm, if you have about a 6.5 in wrist, it will look fine. I wear 34 almost daily. |

Just curious to also know whether a fluted bezel from a 116234 will fit the 116200?

It sounds like neither is exactly what you are looking for. I'd keep looking.

DJ hands down for me. It is an icon in the Rolex line-up and has been configured many ways to please the customers. I like the Fluted Bezel, Jubilee Bracelet, Stick Dial, Silver/White or Black dial. A watch for a life-time if you so choose.

I’d personally not go below 36mm, but that’s personal choice. If it’s not exactly what you’re looking for, I’d keep looking.

If you are male, get a 36 mm Datejust with fluted bezel . Sounds like you like the oyster bracelet, and that’s a great look. So many choices of dial colors. Keep looking. Though both watches pictured are very nice, sounds like neither is quite the one you want. The right one is out there.

Given I've only 1 Rolex purchasing experience, I'd urge you to hold out for the watch that really speaks to you. I tried on a lot of watches before I settled on a TT Sub for a variety of reasons. While waiting for the AD to call, my preferences changed a bit as well and while a GMT was initially on my list, I decided I didn't need the complication as I don't travel as much for work anymore. Unless money isn't a barrier, I'd hold out and keep looking for the right one. If this is start of a collection, somewhat different issue. Personally, the fluted bezel talks to me and a DJ with one could be added to my wish list.

Be patient and look for the watch you really want, it is that simple.
If you get side tracked and start compromising then you could end up buying a watch that doesn't tick all the boxes.

I am not a fan of small romans on the DJ. I really do like the AK dial. I say keep looking for a DJ with stick indices and fluted bezel
