I'm in a similar situation with my explorer 2 226570. Originally I loved it and now I just don't wear it. Waiting for the right time to trade it in for something else I think.

That’s not a “hit”, that is a love tap. Move on and get the watch you really want.

For a 226570 in the now cooling market I think trading in is a good option.

That’s a great deal from an AD and the value will only keep going down. Selling privately and only getting another 1k is silly with all the risk involved.

You might be better off doing a trade for something you like and will wear more. Bestof luck.

The resale market is weak, but I can sell it for about a 20% loss to a local dealer, much of it related to the high sales tax where I live. Excluding the sales tax his offer is 13% below retail. I’d rather not take the loss, but frankly the hit isn’t significant. The bigger issue is the lack of use, and my feeling that not using the watch makes little sense.

I’ve placed it for sale locally, but realistically it will be challenging to move it. Even if I do, the difference may amount to $1k or so compared to the dealer offer. Again, it’s not the financial decision that has me holding on, it’s more a question of wearing it, finding I still don’t use it as much as I thought I would, and finding that the extra wear makes it even harder to sell. The dealer is a friend, suggesting that I keep it, noting that markets change and it really is a nice watch.

My son has Rolex and Omega watches I’ve handed down. My young grandsons are all under 10, and watch inheritance isn’t much of an issue. How would you suggest I consider my option? Have any of you had a similar situation, and how what did you do?

Again thanks for the comments. MPK’s picture is the same model I’m posting about. It is a great watch. My friend is delighted to buy it, and I’d rather sell it to him instead of the dealer knowing it will have a good home.

Frankly I was surprised that two dealers were willing to pay $7,000 for the watch in today’s market. I had expected offers closer to $6,000. The watch retails for just over $8k, and was nearer $7k before recent price increases. So my friend gets a good deal - he’s happy; I take a “love tap” (love that term - thank you Mystro) instead of a hit on resale, and I’m happy as well.

As someone noted I am more of a one watch guy, and after buying the DJ TT in 1981 it was my only watch worn everyday for over 20 years. It had a Rolex service last year and wasn’t polished, keeping the original patina, dial and hands. The bracelet was lightly retouched, but barely noticeable. Paring down my collection to one dress/nostalgia watch (81 DJ) and an everyday do it all (BB58) makes life simple, which I appreciate more and more as the years roll by.

Paralysis by analysis. Sell it. A watch not worn is a truly useless item.

Of note, you have taken the "hit" whether you keep it or not.

That actually looks really great on you. You might want to just put it in the rotation. It will make you look forward to wearing the others, when their turn.

Wow

I literally just traded in a Datejust that I also impulse purchased last year.

I realized that I only wore it a handful of times, and I could probably calculate the price per day I wore it !

Email Takuya or DavidSW. I just did and got a super fair offer from Takuya.
I’ve never dealt with an online / out of state “trusted seller” before - but everyone’s comments were right. Immediate answer - and super easy and safe process to sell / trade. Sent me an insured label for overnight delivery etc.

I’d check with the above two, and take the highest offer between them or your local dealer.

For 1k or less in difference, just go with the safest option. I would never sell privately - too risky.

To me, it sure feels like it’s a financial decision.

You may or may not have gotten caught up in the “AD games,” now come the consequences. If you don’t wear it, sell it. Very simple.

Moda dealers have very thin margins. I’ve sold to them for substantially more than brick and mortar dealers.

Sold one that I just didn’t bond with to one of their big name dealers. He sold the watch without the box the day after he received it for the same price he’d just paid me. Then turned around and sold the box for $200 which was his profit on the deal
