Icon5 40MM Rolex Explorer 1 does it look too big on my wrist

Hello everyone,

Attached is a picture of my new 40mm Rolex Explorer 1 on my wrist. I have had a few comments that it looks too big. I think it looks fine.

Could I get your opinion, do you think the 40mm Explorer 1 looks too big on my wrist?

I appreciate any insight you can provide.

I only have a 6.5 inch wrist

One thing, I only have a 6.5-inch wrist, but for some reason, I can wear bigger watches, I had a Rolex Explorer II for many years, which I thought was just at the border of looking too big on my wrist.

Thanks again!

It looks GREAT on your wrist.

Here's my 2 cents. The watch itself has far more "open space" than what many are accustomed to when they see a Explorer. Because it seems initially off, I think it gets translated as the watch must be too big.

The lugs are not even close to overhanging your wrist and you wear it very well. The Explorer purist illuminati will argue with me, but I think it's a perfect fit. I think a 36 would feel to small for you.

I love it!

(also....regarding your follow up on wrist size. Diameter isn't everything. Wrist shape and body structure are just as important.)

Looks good to me.
The lugs are not sticking out past the natural curve of your wrist.

Watch head sits happily inside your wrist.
It’s not too large by that metric.

I personally don’t like the amount and size of the dial face on the 40mm and MKII explorer so on my wrist I prefer the smaller 125260 but that’s a taste choice ( and some would say it looks too small on my 7 inch wrist.

If your preference is for larger watches and you like the way they ExpII looked then keep on enjoying the Exp 40, it’s a fantastic watch. ( I love the changes compared to my 214270 MKII explorer )

Couldn’t have commented any better myself.

Just to add, OP if you’re happy then that’s all that matters.

I think it looks great. Please enjoy your Exp-40 to the fullest. It's all business. And it's a perfectly executed, 100% tool-focused watch. I'm hoping to get one this December from my AD.

Looks fine at that angle. It would look even more appropriate if you take a picture from a mirror with your arm hanging naturally. 40mm is not a big watch for the most part.

Hey Rick! I hope you get it soon. I picked one up recently and love it. Although I also recently got a 16570 (Explorer II) and it is just sooooo easy to reach for.

36 is the one to get (I have the 124270). 40 is pushing the dial interest a bit far.

Although I’m enjoying sizing up to the 126610LV a bit, of late. The 36 feels a little more stealth when I pop it back on, and the wife prefers it as it’s not as shouty.

The right answer for you is what you like. If you have doubts you will always have doubts.
