5164 - G vs R

Curious to hear views on this one.

I'm undecided, I really like the Patek RG with chocolate dial combo anytime they use it. I also like the fact the RG dial has a subtle sunburst.

The G (in the absence of an A at retail now) is more versatile and speaks to a lot of us with that use of blue.

If you had to pick, trying to ignore the excitement of a new release, which do you prefer more?

It's like asking to pick between your right and left hand....
I do think the WG like you said is slightly more versatile.

Rose gold for me. Even if an even swap to the G was offered I’d say heck no. Rose gold plus strap and dial combination in brown is unbeatable

The G is exactly my style. I've never claimed a watch is a grail before but I think the 5164G pretty much is that for me.

It’s a travel watch. Where do you normally travel? How do you dress there? How do you feel about a rose gold sport watch on rubber in the environments where you’re traveling to do business or on holiday?

If it’s not really for travel, my recommendation would be 5968 instead of either.

To be fair a GMT function is about as useful of a complication as a chronograph is these days. Maybe im in the minority but I love gmt watches and never actually use them when traveling. Im going to italy in september and will just subtract 7 from the local time if i need to even if i have one of my gmts on that takes way less time than looking down at the second hour hand and am/pm indicator.

Even though i dont use the complication i still love it because it reminds me of traveling as i go through the day to day grind.

White gold is more versatile as you said.
Depends on your style and where you live but white gold is stealthier, it's a plus in my opinion.

I've thought about this quite a bit.

I have to admit I've never really took to the aquanaut range, any variant apart from the travel time, just about. The 5164a made the most sense to me, nicely balanced, more discreet, easier to travel with - that options has now gone.

With the two options remaining the G remains the most discreet if used for its intended purpose, which for me would be mainly in Europe, to places I'm familiar with usually not busy European cities.

I do also use GMT's for meetings with clients. I work on different projects with people from New Zealand to west coast and it sometimes helps to quickly reference local time.

In regards to this question, mainly aesthetics, I really like the Patek combination of RG and chocolate dial. It's just lovely, although I appreciate the tradeoff is this is the least discreet combination for a casual rubber strap watch you should be travelling with.

5164 - G vs R

I’d say the white gold would be a better daily watch. Rose gold if it’s more of a special occasion watch.
That’s my R and friends G, I was so impressed with the G, way better in person than pics. But would not trade my R for it, wouldn’t even think about it.

The R for me. The sunburst dial effect in the warm RG-brown combination is mesmerizing, definitely in the sun. Have to say though that I have yet so see the G in the flesh.

For a daily , I'd go with the G. I'm on the list to get one.... eventually.

WG for me too, but I'd prefer a 5167G in that color scheme over the 5164G.

The new 5164G is a really unique color that I think gives you more optionality and is more understated.
