Really helpful, wish I read it earlier before I bought a vintage watch out on a whim!

Icon5 A little bit of help

Hi there, I'm new here just looking for some lighting.
My mum gave me this Rolex that her father got for her for her 15th birthday in 1970. She has the box and the papers but she thinks at some stage many years ago she sent it for repairing and they changed the (I don't know what you call it) dial? the background?...but she is not very sure, she just thinks it used to look differently.
You will see in one of the pictures that one of the little things was loose but I got it fixed this week and now the watch is working, it still needs full service but well for now it works. The guy in the shop said that the machine inside is definitely Rolex original so I'm very happy with that.
I was trying to find some information about models of Rolex but didn't have luck finding something like this one. Can someone look at the pictures and let me know if it looks real? Thank you very much for your help.

This is brilliant. I have always wanted to venture in the world of vintage Rolex but I’ve been very scared to do so for the very reason stated in the thread, but knowing Philip is there and willing to review photos of potential acquisitions I feel a bit more comfortable. I will definitely take advantage of this, and if there’s a way to contributor donate to the great work you’re doing please do share.

Vintage Box 40’s 30’s

I’m looking at a vintage Rolex watch and it comes with an old Rolex box…that I’ve seen a similar box by itself on eBay for $1100. I’ve been searching diligently trying to find any references to this box that is authoritative, but got nothing. The picture is of a similar box on eBay. Anyone can list anything for any dollar amount. I’m trying to figure out its real rarity and value.

Hmm it says Date Just but no date window. I'm not an expert but perhaps your mother was right maybe she took it to a watch repair guy who changed the dial.

Selling on Chrono24

Hi everyone,

I am selling my "PN" yellow gold Daytona on Chrono24, but I have never sold watches online.
I seem to have found a potential buyer and agreed on a price. Is there any way you can get scammed while using Chrono24 to sell the watch?

Or anything I should be on the lookout for on the buyer's side?

Appreciate the help!

Hi I am new to this forum and have a few questions regarding Rolex GMT 1 reference 1675

1 .Movement marking Rolex GMT 1 reference 1675

Until when was the crown logo engraved in the winding rotor of the movement(s) 1565 and 1575(?)?

2. Movement serial numbers

Is there a database in which the movement serial numbers (example D81316) are stored? Does the movement serial numbers give an indication as to when the movement was built and how are the numbers composed?

3.Rolex Certificates

What does it mean when the suffix -01 is added to a serial number e.g. 14xx xxx on a Rolex Guarantee from 1967 and on the Bureaux Suisses certificate (from 1966)?

Many thanks for the assistance

I'd suggest starting a new thread with your questions.
