1675 gilt PCG condition check

Hi guys,

I’m thinking of swapping out of my mk5 matte 1675 for a 622XXX serial gilt mk3 PCG (obviously plus money on top).
Watch is from a very well respected vintage dealer in the UK, I have bought from him many times and he is great, but has been for sale for nearly 5 months now.

Attached is photos- what are your thoughts on the condition? There is some small areas of damage to the dial, namely between 11 and 12 markers and at the ‘Swiss’. There is a bit of flaking between the ‘P’ and ‘E’ of perpetual.
Hands are later but original GMT hand.
Original date wheel, caseback, rivet bracelet.
Case looks full but has been polished in the past.

I’m going to say that the debris on the dial is from the hour hand.

If the lume on the hands is later then it could be colour matched. The dial should be cleaned to stop hand drag from happening.

Moving from your later 1675 to this watch is a good idea for me as long as your current watch isn’t special to you. Also the current watch might be more of an every day watch whereas this could be worn every day but would benefit from a rotation.

The damage on the dial isn’t the best and that would bug me but as long as you’re happy with it that’s all that matters

Don’t you think that sometimes the wear of a a 60 year old watch gets overplayed in zoomed in photos? I don’t think you would see that damage when you have it on the wrist. It’s the same with the colour difference in the hands.

For me these are special watches.

Yes I do agree with you, I have seen this in the metal and the damage is not as noticeable.
I do appreciate when dealers post honest, high quality macros like this though.

If not looking for a museum piece or big appreciation these are wonderful to wear. The history & use of the watch is part of vintage charm.

No expert but I think this damage is quite considerable and the value is in the dial. I would not pursue this example. Not even for an even trade if your MK5 is in good condition.

That damage is quite serious, IMO, I'm almost tempted to say it's ruined. I'm wondering if perhaps someone tried to re-attach a dial foot.

I am curios, if you use a UV light on this dial, it should be reactive?

No go for me, the damage on the dial is too much. Not just the crater at 11/12 but the "Swiss" is illegible. Shame, I like the coloring.
