GMT master II (squeak when shaken)

Hi all. I have had this watch from new just over 6 years. Over the past month I have noticed that when I move my wrist quickly or just shake the watch it makes a squeaky noise from within the watch. It’s keeping time within about 1sec a day which is about the same as it always has . Does anyone have any ideas what it could be and is this a known issue with them. Appreciate any information before contacting the AD . Many thanks .

There is not much within the watch that would squeak or make any noise with the possible exception of a rotor axle for the auto-wind, or the actual reversers themselves.

Not much you can do except have it looked at.

This naturally assumes that the noise is from inside and not just one of the links or bars moving around.

Probably the bracelet. I have a NOS 16570 polar that has a squeaky bracelet.

Rolex bracelet squeak. Very common when new but also can occur if the bracelet is dirty. Give it a good cleaning.

Spoke to an AD about my squeak any they said it’s coming from a loose screw . They said if it doesn’t bother me then no need to send it in for a service as it’s only 6 years old and is keeping time . I’m going to contact Rolex uk this week and see if they will help with a service cost as I don’t think a screw should come loose in 6years if they recommend service after 10years .

Its normal if it's the bracelet

I wouldn’t wait to deal with a “loose screw”. If they are referring to a bracelet screw, you could damage or lose your watch of the screw comes out

When you stated, "I spoke to an AD", were you in the shop with the GMT on your wrist, and he heard the squeak, and he diagnosed it on the spot?

Otherwise, if on the phone, you spoke to an idiot at the AD.

Nobody can divine the cause remotely.

My suggestion is have a watchmaker look at it without opening it. I agree with what Larry said - a movement doesn't squeak loud enough (even if it had an issue) to be noticeable to the unaided ear.

Suggest you call in to Rolex St James Square London. Get them to check it out. Is it a screw loose, or something more serious? They are the experts and hopefully will advise you about the right thing to do. If it's just a screw tightening required I would hope they do it there and then.

Thank you. I spoke to them yesterday and I have a 1 hr appointment with them in a couple of weeks time for them to have a look at it . Hopefully it is just the loose screw and they will do it under goodwill. I will post when I’ve been there . Thanks

It's probably nothing. Check the bracelet and screws to make sure everything's secure
