Auction Ended today and watch sold for £127,000 plus 10% buyers premium and VAT/taxes so about $145-150k all in. Still well below what it is elsewhere.

That’s an amazing price. I don’t get how people are paying over 100 for steel nautilus when they can get this beauty at pretty much msrp.

Unfortunately your USD figures are too good to be correct.

A price of GBP 127k + 10% buyers premium translates into USD 180k even before factoring in VAT/taxes.

Where I live I'd owe 19% or around USD 35k import taxes on top or a total of USD 215k if I'd import the watch from outside of the EU.

EUR to USD at 127k with 10% premium now at 139,700 is 150,806 USD. Yeah forgot about the conversion premium but not sure where the 180k is coming from

Is it not GBP 139,700?

Interesting I am not sure, it is showing winning bid in EUR but then I see where it says currency down in the listing is GBP, I'll reach out to them and inquire just for future understanding. In that case you're definitely correct, the numbers don't look great at all if its GBP plus taxes and imports.

Not sure if apples to oranges, but UK values of some cars vary wildly to the US market so not sure if it's a fair benchmark for USD pricing on 5740.. shopping around recently most are at or above 200 for 2022+

2022 was when they implemented the new buckle?

Interesting. For some reason I thought the 5740 always had the buckle but guess I was wrong. Glad my ‘23 does.

it is 140 UK pounds in total which is $180K...

excluding taxes...

this is used so price is fair but not wow... you can buy brand new 2022 at $205K...

i wanted to bid, but then i am someone who would pay the extra 15% for a brand new, so i passed... 200K for brand new is more appealing...

From my understanding 5740 always did have the new "pinch-to-open" buckle vs. old clam/flip clasp, but in 22/23 it got the micro-adjustments?

The new buckle (2 pushers) was presented in 2018 with the 5968A and 5740G.
Then, in 2019, they officially presented a first version (Ladies Nautilus 7118) of the Adjustment system (without locking feature).
Finally, in 2022, they presented a new version of the Adjustment system (with a locking feature) with the 5712/1R, 5811G and 5990/1A.

https://www.hightime-reviews.com/pat...ustment-clasp/

Some models were updated along the way but no official date (like for some new caliber evolutions like the 324 family).

It’s not marked sold so could still be available. (There are also a few others in the $185-190 range from other production years)

Relative to other Nautilus references, this is by far the best value in my opinion.

That was a great pick up, congratulations! Do you mind sharing what you paid? It seems there are at least a few members here interested in adding a 5740 to their collection.

If you do, care if I PM you privately?

I don't mind sharing, especially if it helps someone else. I paid 185k.

The way I saw it was the watch retails for 152k plus tax comes out to around 163k so there's about 22k over list. And I shared this deal with my local AD and I asked how much would I need to spend in store to get this piece at list and he said between 80-100k on jewelry which to me was ridiculous given that the watch is trading for just 25-35k over list. I tried it on in the boutique and Oh My God it was amazing. The blue dial of the 5740 blows away the old 5711 blue dial and even the new 5811 blue dial. The 5990 1r to me is just way too big, extremely thick and wide proportions and uncomfortable not to mention loud and in your face so that one is out. The 5740 however is just the epitome of steal wealth. And to top it off you are getting a perpetual calendar inside of a nautilus.

I recently purchased a 5811G in the gray market and had to return it at a loss because it just felt terrible on the wrist. That extra 1mm made way more of a difference than I imagined and also the new clasp is terrible. Really bothers the inside of the wrist for me. But not the case with the 5740g though which I found interesting.

IMO 40mm is the perfect size for a nautilus (atleast imho) and the 5740g is the best blue dial that Patek has ever made thus far. You truly can't go wrong with this watch.

It's as if I wrote this post. You captured my thoughts on the 5740g to a tee.

Congrats on the spectacular purchase. You are at the top of the mountain. Enjoy the view!

And I do get what you mean about the inside of the new clasp causing some discomfort, by the way it presses in.

Having a 5990 with the old locking clasp, was quite surprised when the new buckle on 5726 was uncomfortable despite being adjusted to same band size. It took some wearing to get used to it…

Congrats on an epic piece added to what appears to be an epic collection, enjoy in good health

I'm in the same camp as you that I've deliberately hunted for Nautilus and Aquanauts prior to the 2021/2022 clasp update, the new clasp is a downgrade to my eyes

I have the 5712 and must say that the 5740 is one of the few pieces that feel even nicer on the wrist. Beautiful piece.
