SD4K or my current DSSD…

I bought a new SDK4 in 2014. I sold and I’ve always regretted it. I’m currently wearing a 126660 DSSD. I have an 8 inch wrist so I can pull it off. I have the opportunity to trade my 2019 DSSD for a 2014 SD4K and some cash from me of course. I don’t buy a watch worried about what it’ll be worth someday. Is it safe to assume the SD4K will appreciate or hold more value seeing it was only a 3 run?

It’s not really taken off in value as much as I thought it might. My guess is the interest in SD in general isn’t mainstream enough to really push its value up significantly. I like what you have as it’s the alpha diver in the catalog.

Get or Keep the watch you want.

For this trade, if you don’t still love the DSSD, then it’s a watch just sitting. I would have no problem trading it towards a watch you really want and will wear. How much additional cash are you being asked to give? If the deal isn’t right, then find another SS4K.

Like you, I bought a SD4K new from an AD in 2014 and sold mine several years ago. I regretted it the second I walked out of the dealer’s store. I bought a NOS about 2 years ago and don’t regret buying it back at all.

Live and learn, but it’s more fun to do so with a watch you really want and will wear.

I recently traded a 14060m plus cash for an SD4K which I now own alongside a Mk1 DSSD. I’ll never get rid of either, they make a perfect pair.

Regret stinks, sorry that is how you feel. You do not state why you sold the SD, and why you decided to buy a DSSD. Your answer likely lies in your personal choices that you didn't reveal. That is normally fine but you are asking for opinions, so in order to receive feedback you should tell us "why?"

Wrist size is just one part of the decision/equation matrix. If you detail what you like/dislike, why you sold your SD in the first place, why you moved to the DSSD, we might be able to give you better vectors.

If the true purpose of your inquiry is potential future value of either watch, well, that is a different discussion.

Edit, maybe consider adding the SD4K … IMHO they are different enough to own both

Personal speculation of course….I’d think the appreciation, price wise, on the SD4K will happen, just not for another 20+ years.
If it were me, I’d forget all the noise and get/have whichever one would make me happier when I looked at my wrist.

I sold the SD4K because I went a different direction with things. I had an investment opportunity which I helped fund from sale of the SD4K. I started to wear Omega’s. I always said it was the perfect watch for me. Bigger than a Sub and was a bit unique. I got a great deal on my DSSD recently. I don’t collect watches…I wear the DSSD daily. Fits my wrist great. I saw an available SD4K. The cash difference is more than I expected but is doable. If had the chance again and there was an SD4K available at the time, I would have chose that over DSSD.

SD4K is a great tool watch! The watch is a wearable watch that can be worn with a suit or diving gear ! Great DNA when it comes to date window and dimensions! Most important you most like the watch! Good luck!

I bought one SD4K at release and I still have it, wouldn't sell it.

The amount of money I’d have to pay to acquire the SD4K is more than I can justify spending at the this point. I’m also want complete set…hang tags etc. I’m going to keep my DSSD and look for another SD4K in the future.

For me, I put a price on "enjoyment". The question is "Do I enjoy wearing the watch?" If the watch is a "wearer", I say go with the one that you enjoy the most. Of course, if you can only have one of them. Otherwise have both, so you don't have to decide. LOL

I suspect there are many more DSSDs in circulation.

I suspect value retention will be similar/slightly better than the DSSD long term.

I just did that exact swap about a month ago, 126660 to 116600 SD4K. It sounds like the same situation, I didn't dislike the DSSD, I actually liked the watch quite a bit, I just found myself reaching for smaller watches more often and it wasn't getting much wrist time. Again, same situation, I'd find a trade opportunity but the cash on top of the DSSD didn't make sense to pursue and I'd bail on the idea. I had pretty much decided to keep the DSSD and add a 16600 or 14060 for about the same price but after about 2 months of not wearing the DeepSea, I decided a watch sitting in the safe wasn't doing me any good, found a decent deal and did the trade for ~3k over trade in value.

At an 8 inch wrist I'd keep the 126660 DeepSea though honestly. I lost some weight and dropped to about 7in wrist and that was part of the reason I started thinking about trading

Clearly a personal choice, but I sold my sd4k and held onto my 126660 and have not regretted it at all. Just never bonded with the sd4k. To me the DSSD is very comfortable and just the epitome of a dive watch.
