Rolex made the first Submariners in 1953. They have been in both salt and fresh water ever since. US Navy and Special Operations divers have used them on dive operations as issue watches for decades.

My 49-yr old 1680 red Submariner spent two days in the Gulf of Mexico on an extended spear -fishing trip in the Gulf near Panama City 5 years ago. Pressure tested and all fresh O-ring gaskets intact; that's what the watch was made for.
Not wearing a Submariner in the water, though personal taste dictates...is like
not taking a GMT reference on an international air flight.
