Question re: “service” stone dial
The below 18238 with Cacholong dial is listed by the seller as having a service dial.
I believe that all 5-digit Cacholong DD dials are marked only SWISS MADE - Is there some other visible distinction which identifies this one as a service dial? I understand that service *onyx* dials are indeed usually marked differently than the original onyx ones, but I’m not aware of any similar division among Cacholong dials. It could be that either a) the seller is personally aware that this DD had a service Cacholong dial swapped in, or b) the seller simply assumed the Cacholong service vs. original markings followed the same timeline-pattern as the onyx DD dials. Anyone have some guidance to share on stone service DD dials (either these Cacholongs specifically or others)? . |

My impression is that these stone dials with the diamond 6 and 9 markers are post 2000. The 5 digit ones were all plain.
The later stone dials also have non beveled window frames. |

I believe some diamond 6/9 stone dials were offered on the late five digit models before 2000. For example, the Cacholong dial above is a five digit 18238, and Cacholong was only ever offered with the 6/9 markers.
The offerings seem to be slightly different for different dial stones. E.g., iirc 182xx lapis dials were offered with both 6/9 and no markers. Similarly, there were at least three different no-marker onyx dials, with 3 different Swiss markings and 2 differently shaped day window bezels, along with the later 6/9 onyx ones. So - Is there anything which visibly distinguishes this Cacholong as a service dial? |
