While I understand the point of the wake-up feature, I'm not sure if this kind of unwanted alert will make customers happy. Probably they want to add some Pavlovian response to stop the snoring during sleeping?

Maybe I'm misunderstanding something: snoring is very annoying, but as far as I know it's not dangerous for breathing. Mostly because a human is necessarily breathe while snoring. However, the total silence can be dangerous for the newborn babies. There, if you wake him up in time when he forgets to breathe, it saved their life. There's probably something I'm not thinking of

So they did not mention the O2 sensor nor the tap to awaken.

The algorithm will use the accelerometer to detect sleep apnea to monitor small movements of the wrist interpreted as interruptions in normal respiratory patterns.

So no interrupted sleep apnea intervention. I'm a little disappointed in that feature being deleted. With the new AI on silicon maybe something for the future.

I don't think they wanted to risk being sued if the algorithm fails and the user dies. If it only shows results, but does not intervene, then if something goes wrong, it is not Apple's responsibility. Sleep apnea is not only dangerous for one's own life, but it can also be dangerous for the lives of others. I think this may be another reason why they don't take the risk that "this device wakes you up" if there is a problem. Snoring in itself does not mean apnea, although it is true, that it can be a sign of this disease.

The interesting fact is, that it would worth checking the pulse and blood oxygen level at this stage, which is naturally also possible, but that would almost be the world of Star Trek to take a real time automatic medical solution. I think, we are not there yet. Mostly as this two simple checking can be done without ANY AI feature. So for me this feature seems to be only in a diagnostic stage yet, which major goal is to gather a huge database of health data from the users...

I don't want to start a new topic about AirPods Pro, so I would like to mention here that it was a completely bad joke that the new features of the Pro4 were discussed exactly the same features that the AirPods Pro2 have had for years. In addition, the second series AirPod Pro2 already has a volume control, which was not mentioned in the case of the 4.

I hope they took this seriously, because it would have been a bad joke.

My AirPod pros have tactile volume control - you slide your finger up or down on the flat part of the stem.

Yes, I meant that feature.

And to be honest, based on this, the only new "feature" I liked in the new iPhone was the touch-sensitive camera button.

Even though this is a very old technical solution, it is really a new capability on a phone. I think that if the customers are satisfied with this solution, they will probably change the sound and the other buttons to this type, because this way you can assign many more functions to any button.

After all, this kind of "hidden" button was rumored years ago, so it seems, it took so long for it to be included in an Apple product. And in the end, the point was not that the button shape will disappear from the surface, but that the surface will be touch-sensitive.

In camera mode, the iPhones new Camera Control button you mention is going to be more than a shutter release.

The Camera Control button has a force sensor and touch sensor to support different gestures.

Single click - Open up the Camera app (or a third-party app).
In Camera, Single click, - Take a photo.
Click and hold - Open Camera app, start a video recording.
Light press - Open up controls like zoom.

This button will also lock focus and exposure (coming this fall) for reframing shots without losing focus.

Double light press - Bring up the camera preview menu to choose different controls like exposure or depth of field.

Swipe - Swap through available adjustment options, and also change parameters like zoom, exposure, or depth of field when a control is selected.

The button has deep software support, so you can also swap between control functions without having to go into the Camera app manually.

Using visual control with something that has a date, such as a flyer, will add the date to the Calendar app.

The Camera Control has a sapphire crystal covering with a smooth texture, surrounded by stainless steel trim. It is inset into the *iPhone*'s frame just a bit, and the force sensor has haptic feedback to make it feel like a DSLR camera shutter.

Of all the fancy features the new series provide, it’s the simplest one that may attract me back to wearing wearing one situationally.


Battery life.

I tried a cheap SE not long ago to help me with some health and fitness issues (as well as provide a cheap GMT option while traveling in potentially suspect areas) and it proved cumbersome to stay charged. So it just sat most of the time completely dead. I tried to use it for some sleep behavior scanning, but that literally took away the only time I usually reserve to charging my other disposable electronic products.

I may give the Ulta a try purely because it can keep a charge more than a day. Probably won’t though.

I have an Ultra2 and routinely get 2-days of use.

But if I make calls (using AirPod Pro) and use it untethered it will only get 1-day.

The announced updated one has a feature that would kill battery life faster: sleep apnea notifications.

I don't wear mine at night - but if one uses sleep apnea notifications then it would need to be worn throughout the night.

If you go for a new Ultra then also opt for the Titanium Milanese Loop. I've had the original Milanese Loop through 3 generations of AW and it makes life easy.
