Good write up. Wempe is first rate but I’ve put my name down for a new Sub a couple times over the span of a few years. Never got a watch. Hopefully you have better luck.

Ha! That's a great story. Although I imagine you were a little disappointed when you got the second call!

Thanks for sharing. The Rolex store in the meatpacking district is pretty amazing. I know Rolex is your focus now but check out the AP house nearby. Pretty cool spot as well.

Just go grey and you can get a 11 series sub for same as retail plus tax. 12 series you may pay a 1000-1500 premium but that mY be worth it if the wait is a year.

Who was the SA that helped you at WoS Hudson yards? Just curious

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but I've had a couple of private messages asking me to follow up on this post. Despite staying in touch via text and some additional visits, and supply and demand seemingly normalizing a bit, I was never offered a watch from any of the NYC ADs. I also visited William Barthman in the financial district which was a good experience with particularly friendly SAs (though they never allocated me a watch!)

However, all is not lost... I found an SA at a smaller suburban AD who has been great. Have ultimately been allocated a few Rolexes, all of which I actually wanted, including my sub.

Should I have just gone grey at the beginning? Probably. But I didn't feel any urgency given my existing watch collection, and I actually enjoyed trying on watches and talking shop with the various salespeople. Hopefully things have eased up since this post.

Good luck and happy hunting!

The right AD can make all the difference in the world guys! Just saying!
There is hope for all of us out there of a good AD.

Congrats on your allocations.

Cheers,

Thanks for sharing OP.

Out of curiosity, you mentioned a SA commenting on your watch.

What were you wearing?

Honestly I don’t fully remember, but probably my Speedmaster.

Did you wind up in a NJ AD to get your Rolexes?

Congratulations on finding an AD that is willing to sell you some watches. I've read several posts on TRF recommending WIS located in NYC leave the city to find an AD. I'm glad to read of your luck.
