Right place at the right time

While on vacation in Greece a couple of weeks ago, I casually dropped by a Rolex boutique on Crete that I’d just happened to pass by to ask if they had any Daytonas on Oyster Flex. The woman who greeted me chuckled (in a genuine, not in a condescending, way) and said she had none but wished she did, given their popularity. At first she was guarded with me, but we soon struck up a fun, 20-minute conversation about Rolex, in particular, and watches in general. I had a great time with her.

As I thanked her for her time and our discussion and actually had turned to leave, I asked on a whim, “By the way, have you yet seen the rose gold Sky-dweller with the blue/blue-green dial? I’ve really wanted to see it but haven’t been able to find one in the wild.” She smiled and replied, “Would you like to see one?” It turned out that she’d received one two days before and the customer to whom they’d allocated it had either declined it or not returned their call.

Of course, the rest is history. The watch — albeit I’d have preferred the jubilee model — has been at or near the top of my list since it was introduced last year. I feel so fortunate to have found one — in Greece of all places — and to have been able to purchase it. It will be a long while before I can afford any other watch on my wish list. But I’m sure not complaining about that. This one is strikingly beautiful … and sure competes with my Platona for presence on the wrist!

Congrats! What a great vacation souvenir!! Also love the unexpected - although not on vacation and I had purchase history - it’s how I got my GMT VTNR here in the states.

What an absolute stunner of a watch!!

I’d need to see one of these in person as I just can’t see the greenish part of the dial. All I see is the typical blue.

Yup, it’s very subtle. I have the SS blue dial, too, and putting them side-by-side helps. But photos don’t capture the difference. The dial unquestionably is more blue than blue-green, however.

It’s an amazing watch and you’re probably loving it. It will also remind you of Crete each time you look at it. Congrats.

Congratulations on the new pick up, would love to see the two blue dials side by side, interesting that you noted it's hard to see the differences in pics, must be very alike....

Wow - what a vacation score! I was in greece last summer and didn't even want to waste my time going to AD's, however the work paid off for you! Enjoy in good health.

Great story, congrats! Now you must suffer a little by hearing a dad joke I recently heard... Why do people in Athens have a hard time getting up early?

Because dawn is tough on Greece!

Congrats!!! Beautiful!

We were also in Greece a few weeks ago. Went to Santorini, Mykonos and Athens. Stopped in a couple AD’s but wasn’t as lucky as you.
