Dealers aren’t naive to know market vs MSRP values. It needs to make sense for them to sell you a “hot” item. Business first. I would appreciate the transparency…

For the piece you’re interested in. Skip the game/“relationship” and go grey.

Yup! Most ADs won’t be so upfront about it because it’s illegal to do. However, they all do it and will not say anything about it. Does not seem right but this is how it is. Op

The bluesy is not so hard to get most TT are not especially now that the market is softening. Forget that fool you spoke with and don’t let it get to you, some of them are real idiots we have all met them here.

Speak to your SA and let him know that you are interested in the bluesy and that there will be other purchases in the future but not because , you have to?

See what happens or talk to the manager. Be polite and not aggressive even though you have every right to be upset.

The other option is visit another AD and inquire with them, you never know?
I think they are at or below retail in the grey market, find a reputable dealer and ask?

Best of luck

Is it normal for them to be so upfront about this?
I'm quoting because the throat-punch made me LOL. I hope you aren't actually going to take this action, but that is why it made me LOL. Probably because I am aware how such a blow would be received (usually not well).

As many have said above, it is the game unfortunately. You don't have to play their game. You can play yours, but it may be a waiting game. Personally, I prefer killing them with kindness. Not because I should, but because I can. If it works out, it works out. If it does not, then I didn't lose anything in the transaction.

I, like many before me, will not purchase goods (diamonds) that I don't care about.

Please do not ‘ask to speak to the manager’ at a Rolex store, as a first time buyer with no history, simply because you can’t get the watch you want. Unless you want the staff to make fun of you, after the manager also tells you you’re not getting said watch.

Verrrrry much agree with you..... though.... To be fair, many have never had to sucessfully operate a company. Perhaps they never worked in retail, with a customer-facing job during a 'bubble'. They're unaware of reality, as their world revolves around them. Everyone gets a participation award and all that.

I'm looking forward to learning what the OP brings to the table.

Most people say they want the truth until they are told the truth. So you can not get the watch from this AD without other purchases, so what. They told you the rules to the game for them and you can either choose to participate or not. No emotion, only deciding what it is you want to do. I would look at our Trusted Sellers, my answer to getting all the information on price and availability, and see if the watch is available for the cost through my AD including tax. With the add on of jewelry to be able to make the purchase I would believe that the Trusted Seller route would be the best and have the watch by lunch tomorrow. Good luck and the TT Submariner is a cool watch.

Unfortunately, no. They will often leave you guessing how much is enough to get what you want. What you have is actually not that bad, but I'd negotiate. Because cut in half is pretty vague. Maybe you'll get them to set some concrete numbers like 1-2 months or something.

I did have some douche bag SA at a random AD in Virginia tell me that "A Rolex could only be obtained once you spent a lot of money at their store. A Rolex was a reward for being a good customer"

I literally laughed at him & said "yeah, instead of spending a bunch of money on crap I don't want I'll just pay gray dealer mark up...."

I still smile when I think of the face he made.

It s not just Rolex. Had an SA at WoS tell me that if I wanted to be able to buy a 60th bond anniversary Seamater I would need to already be a good client… then when they struggled selling them they offered me the 60th and said it would be a good start to build a strong ourchase history to qualify for a Snoopy. That just pushed me away.

My Rolex SA has not yet played any games on me. I got to buy a Sub from them without being asked to buy anything I did not want or need.

If you don’t want to play the game, the only way you’ll get a watch is wait for buy today grey. You can actually pick up a 126613LB less than retail anyway. What you waiting for?

Sounds like there's SA's out there that are just as frustrated with the current state of things as the prospective buyers'... about right. Even if not every SA admits it.

Is it normal for ADs to blatantly admit to prioritizing buyers of other merch?

At that AD maybe they have normalized such behavior.

Don't let it trigger you towards violence though.

Turn him in if you are that outraged.
Rolex has banned tie-in sales via their contract with ADs.

Op, I did not know asking for the manager would be such a bad idea? Or even speaking with your regular SA , It just a Bluesy not a Pepsi or a Panda. Then I would agree with the others find a new AD. A new Rolex should not bring all this grief with it.

Times will change the hype market is gone forever and with exception of the new releases or high demand pieces, this will always be there. They should value every single customer.

The good ADs are out there and you will find one.

Cheers,
