The pinnacle of Rolex

I’ve often wondered, what Rolex is the one which is as good as it gets. I would presume it has to be PM. Sub/GMT/Daytona and DD are probably the likely contenders. Platinum over gold? If so that would be the platinum Daytona vs the DD. I would say I don’t like diamonds on a man’s watch (general rule of thumb). Is the Daytona / DD platinum the best it gets for Rolex in your opinion?

They are all made the same in the same factories out of the same materials. So, the answer lies in the one you like best.

Modern tech integrated with a direct visual from the past, what could possibly beat the Le Mans as pinnacle?or at least in the conversation.

Beauty in the eye of the beholder. One could argue that any which one is the pinnacle.

For me, it’s probably the Submariner.

Probably Daytona and SkyD from a movement perspective.

I agree with everyone, it's in the eye of the beholder. And for me, every time I get one that I think is the ONE, before too long there's another. Right now it's GMTs.

Myself not a fan of any of the Daytona range especially any precious metal ones but what's best in any Rolex is what that person wants to own and wear. Irrespective perceived price hype etc.

Like Brian said, it is a personal choice. I too shunned diamonds on a man's watch, but the platinum DD with ice blue dial and diamond hour markers would definitely be the exception for me. Love the roman numerals, never thought I would like the diamonds, but I can't refute that pics of that dial really looks good. On the other hand, I am not a fan of diamond bezels.

Other than that, a gold Sub- 126618LB to be exact.

To each his/her own for defining the pinnacle Rolex.

This is my choice.

Although I love my SS sports Rolex as well.

There’s room in the Watchbox for it all, not just the “pinnacle”.

Everything in the Rolex public catalog is varying degrees of greatness. The off catalog pieces are next level.

Explorer 214270 MkII, 39 mm. Great movement, comfortable, easy to read. It’s the pinnacle of Rolex engineering.

Bingo.

For me, it's the 16600 Sea Dweller. Beautiful lines. A bit thicker and prouder on the wrist, but not too dissimilar from a Submariner. Not jewelry like a 6 digit. Capable. Indestructible. Subtle. Economic.

Will look good in 50 years.

114270: They say perfection is achieved not when there is nothing left to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.

16710: Combination of what are, IMO, the most interesting and practical collection of Rolex's technical innovations (some of which were invented way earlier).

If you want to say the gold version of the latter, fine, go for it. I'm not a gold guy but I get it.

Agree

And it’s exactly why I just bought a NOS one. It’s pinnacle Rolex tool watch, hands down (imo).

5 digit and before has a soul, 6 digit is kind of lifeless jewelry. Although many models look good, they just don’t sing to me like the older ones do. Feel sterile in all honesty.
