5172g

Hi all,
I need some advice. For my brothers 50th I have been tasked with getting him a 5172G in blue. I would like to get him an unworn/NIB model. None of the people I've worked with in the past (Davidsw/Takuya) have anything based on their website (I haven't contacted them). There are a few on Chrono24 but ranging anywhere from 60k on up. Models are 2021-2023. Some of these Chrono24 places I've never heard of, yeah they have reviews but I just asked for extra pictures of one and the seller was like "yeah, pics already up". (Sorry but if you can't even do that no way I'm wiring you 60k) Anyone have any other leads on where I could go besides the obvious FS forum here. There's one but it's used. Just trying to find someone trusty to deal with. thanks, please either just respond or DM me.
Mike

That's as about a good of a deal as you're going to find for a 5172g. NIB for under 60k is going to be a very difficult find.

NIB for 60-65 is what I'm going after but thanks for pointing out the EW listing. I appreciate it!

What about LuxuryTime NYC? Anyone dealt with them? I have a pretty good offer on a 2022 New one

Can you fly over to NYC and collect in person? I can recommend EWC in Boston. If they say it’s like new, it’s like new.

I will respectfully disagree with your last point. They are certainly stretching their like new qualification. Sometimes there are obvious scratches, say on a Nautilus bezel, and in other instances a watch will look like new from afar but has been polished quite a bit. YMMV...

Mmm, well, another reason why in-person collection is preferable. If it were me, i’d get the one in the classifieds but I understand the wish that get a brand new one.

The "trusted sellers" here will do the same truth stretching. My yellow gold Daytona purchased from a trusted seller here came with a small ding on the lug from someone removing the bracelet and some scratches on the clasp that should've been pointed out. I didn't notice it until a week and a half later and saw it in the pics I took right after I opened the box. The seller had already removed the pics from the listing and said they've been deleted, so I felt out of luck to press it any further.

Got to be very careful.

That’s what I’m trying to do. Be very careful. New/unworn from some co in nyc I’ve never heard of and the watch is from Asia. Like, how could you possibly know it’s unworn???

I would 100% buy the EWC example in this case.

Why when the same watch is listed here for 10k less? Neither are new. Neither are abused.

The EWC watch is a used one. There are a large number of sellers delivering similar condition ones for signficantly less.

Because I have had good experiences with EWC over a period of years, trust them as an established, well-known business that has a brick and mortar presence, offers a warranty, etc. YMMV.

I have good experience with both but 10k is a lot of money to overpay on a watch that is pretty easy to find not to mention soft in the marketplace.

Fair enough

I’m too cheap. I’ve dealt with Brian before and I’m very comfortable dealing with smaller dealers to save my arse when I turn around and sell in 2 years lol

Frankly I wouldn’t want EWC servicing it anyways.

I’ve looked at them before (but never contacted), maybe even for the same watch. Let us know how it goes.

Went great. I just received the watch and its a 2024 brand new. Really happy with crown timepieces. Whole thing was pretty easy and safe. Now I just need to not wear it before I give it to my brother! Ha!

Quick question: When winding, there isn't a hard stop like my other manual wind watches. It kinda does a click/jump. That normal? Is it possible to overwind this movement?

Thanks for the help everyone! Now I just need to find a 5212 for myself before it's discontinued

The click/jump is the movement’s overwind protection mechanism. So if you feel that, stop winding.

Where are you hearing about the 5212A being discontinued?

Nowhere, but they are all discontinued eventually
